Step 1: Check you have the right Wise Business account tier

Before you can create payment links, you need a Wise Business Advanced account with at least one set of account details enabled.

Account details give you local receiving information. This typically includes a UK sort code and account number for GBP, or an IBAN for EUR. These details let eligible customers pay you using local receiving details for the currency you request. Wise also provides SWIFT/BIC codes and IBAN tools to help with international payment details.

Once you have account details, you can share them with the person or business that wants to pay you, and they can send money directly from their bank.

If you are on the Essential plan, you can upgrade by paying the one-time Advanced set-up fee. Once upgraded, you can open account details in 22+ currencies, subject to availability.

To set up your account details:

  1. Log in to your Wise Business account.
  2. Navigate to the currency you want to receive.
  3. Select Set up account details.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps shown to activate them.

As soon as your account details are active, you can start creating payment links.

Step 2: Create a payment link

There are two ways to create a payment link in Wise Business.

From your home page

  1. Log in to Wise Business.
  2. Select the currency you want to receive.
  3. Click Receive.
  4. Follow the payment link creation flow.

From the Payments tab

  1. Click Payments in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Select Payment Links.
  3. Create a new payment link or view and manage existing ones.

Both routes let you create new links and keep track of active or inactive ones in one place.

Step 3: Choose a single use or reusable link

Next, choose the type of link you want to create.

Single use payment links

A single use link accepts a single payment from a single customer. Once the customer pays, the link closes automatically.

Single use links are useful for:

  • One-off invoices
  • Fixed project fees
  • Deposits
  • Individual customer requests
  • Single product or service payments

Single use links expire 30 days after creation, or 30 days after any due date you set if no payment has been received.

Reusable payment links

A reusable link can accept multiple payments from multiple customers. It stays active until you close it manually.

Reusable links are useful for:

  • Repeat payment requests
  • Regular customers
  • Standard service fees
  • Donations or contributions
  • Recurring billing workflows
  • Businesses that want one link to use repeatedly

Reusable links can remove the need to create a new link every time. This can be helpful for businesses that invoice the same customers repeatedly.

Step 4: Fill out the payment link details

Once you have chosen the link type, add the payment request details.

Currency and amount

Choose the currency you want to be paid in and enter the amount. For a fixed invoice, set a specific amount so your customer knows exactly what to pay.

Customer name

Adding your customer's name makes it easier to match payments to the right person when reviewing your account.

Product or service description

Add a short description of the payment. This is optional, but useful for record-keeping and customer clarity.

For example:

  • “Website design deposit”
  • “March consulting invoice”
  • “Wholesale order 1048”
  • “Photography booking fee”

Due date

You can add a due date if you want the customer to pay by a specific time.

Invoice attachment

You can attach an invoice so your customer has key payment and billing information in one place. Wise Business also lets you create professional invoices, then add account details or a payment link to the invoice.

Customer message

You can add notes or instructions for your customer, such as a thank-you message, order reference or delivery details.

Step 5: Choose payment methods

You can choose from the payment methods available to your business and your customer, depending on eligibility, region, currency and current availability.

Bank transfer

Bank transfers are free to receive in most cases, with some exceptions such as USD wire payments and CAD Swift payments. Check the Wise pricing page for the latest fees.

Domestic payments are usually the cheapest and fastest way to receive money with Wise account details. For international payments, the sender may need details such as your name, IBAN and Swift/BIC, depending on the currency and payment route.

Pay with Wise

Pay with Wise is free and can arrive quickly when your customer pays from their Wise account.

Note: Card payment acceptance for new Wise Business customers is currently unavailable.

Step 6: Share the payment link with your customer

When your link is created, share it wherever it fits best in your workflow.

You can send it by:

  • Email: Paste the link into your invoice or payment reminder email.
  • Text message: Send it directly to your customer's phone.
  • WhatsApp: Useful for customers who prefer quick mobile communication.
  • Invoice: Add the link directly to your invoice document.
  • QR code: Use a QR code for in-person payments or printed materials.

The link contains the payment details your customer needs. It works on both mobile and desktop, and customers do not need a Wise account where the selected payment method is available.

You can also use Wise Business's free invoicing tool to create professional invoices with a built-in payment link.

Step 7: Track payment request status

After sharing a link, you can track its status in your Wise Business account.

Go to Payments, then Payment Links.

Links are grouped into:

  • Active links: open links that can still receive payment
  • Inactive links: links that have been paid, expired or closed by you

Single use links expire after 30 days if unpaid, or after 30 days from the due date you set. If a single use link expires, you need to create a new one to collect the payment.

Reusable links do not expire. They stay active until you close them manually. Once closed, a reusable link cannot be reopened.

This helps you keep a clear record of outstanding and completed payment requests without needing to search through email threads.

Step 8: Get paid into your Wise Business account

When your customer pays, the money lands directly in your Wise Business account in the currency you requested. Wise notifies you when the payment arrives.

How long it takes for money to arrive depends on the currency sent, the payment method used and when the payment was sent. Payments are usually processed on working days, so weekends and public holidays may cause delays.

Domestic payments can arrive within minutes or hours for some currencies, while Swift payments usually take 1 working day and can take up to 5 working days for many currencies. USD Swift payments can sometimes take up to 6 working days.

Frequently asked questions about creating payment links using Wise Business

What are Wise Business payment links?

A Wise Business payment link is a shareable web link that lets you request payments from customers quickly and easily. When a customer opens the link, they see the amount, currency and payment methods you've set. When they complete the payment, the funds arrive in your Wise Business account.

Payment links are useful for one-off invoices, recurring payment requests, international transactions and everyday payment collection. You can share them via email, text, or WhatsApp, or attach them to an invoice for added convenience.

Your customer does not need a Wise account to pay you. Wise and non-Wise customers can pay where the service and selected payment method are available, subject to Wise terms.

The feature is available with a Wise Business Advanced account, which requires a one-time set-up fee of £50. Creating individual payment links is free once your account is active. Please check Wise Business pricing for the latest pricing information.

Note: Card payment acceptance for new Wise Business customers is currently unavailable.

Why use Wise Business payment links?

Payment links can help UK businesses take a more proactive approach to collecting payments.

They may be useful if you want to:

  • Make it easier for customers to pay
  • Avoid repeatedly sharing bank details
  • Collect payments in different currencies
  • Reduce back-and-forth emails about payment instructions
  • Attach payment links to invoices
  • Track unpaid and paid requests in one place
  • Support cash flow by making payments simpler for customers

Instead of sending account details and asking the customer to manually arrange a transfer, you can send a single link that contains the information they need to pay.

Can Wise receive cash or cheque payments?

No. Wise does not accept cash or cheque payments.

What should I do if money has not arrived?

If the estimated arrival time has passed, check with the sender that they used the correct account details. You can also ask the sender for proof of payment, which can help Wise locate the money if it has been delayed.

Is Wise Business available in every country?

Availability can vary by region. Please see the terms of use and product availability for your region before using Wise Business features.
