MultiPass is a corporate-grade multi-currency payment account option for cross-border businesses, freelancers, and digital nomads moving funds across multiple global markets.
The platform operates as an electronic money institution (EMI) rather than a local Romanian retail bank; it currently provides an international payment account for Romania that supports RON alongside EUR, GBP, USD and 70+ currencies.7
Here's what MultiPass currently offers freelancers7:
MultiPass may suit freelancers working across multiple countries and currencies. The higher monthly cost may be easier to justify if you regularly send or receive payments in multiple currencies.
However, for freelancers whose international activity is primarily UK–Romania, the pricing may be harder to justify compared to lighter alternatives.
Managing multiple currencies and international payments can become complex as your freelance business grows.
Wise Business offers a multi-currency account designed to help freelancers send, receive, and manage money across borders with transparent fees.

When comparing providers, think about how your business actually operates:
A low monthly fee doesn't always mean lower overall costs. Currency exchange markups and international transfer charges can add up quickly for freelancers working across borders.
Requirements vary by provider, but MultiPass currently states that business account applicants in Romania typically need to provide7:

If you're a UK freelancer working in Romania, there are a few key things to be aware of:
It's strongly recommended to work with an accountant familiar with both UK and Romanian tax law.

Potentially, yes. The OECD currently provides the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) materials as part of its tax transparency resource centre, describing the standard for automatic exchange of financial account information in tax matters.13
This means financial account information can, in principle, be exchanged automatically between participating tax authorities under CRS arrangements. The safest approach is to keep accurate records and declare all relevant income on your UK tax return.
For most traditional Romanian banks, a Romanian registered business address is required, since the account is linked to your business registration in Romania.
Some digital-first providers are more flexible, but a local business address is generally expected as part of the registration process.
If you're not yet established in Romania, it's worth looking into how to register as a PFA or SRL before applying for a business account, as this is usually a prerequisite.
You can, but it's not always practical. Romanian clients and institutions may prefer Romanian account details, which can affect payment processes.
For international transfers to and from Romania, Wise Business lets you receive GBP in the UK using local account details, then send RON directly to Romanian recipients at the mid-market exchange rate, with fees shown before you make a transfer.

Having a Romanian business account doesn't automatically change your UK tax position, but the income flowing through it may well be taxable in the UK if you are UK tax resident, as the UK government currently states that UK residents normally pay UK tax on all their income, whether it’s from the UK or abroad.11
The UK–Romania Double Taxation Convention is designed to eliminate double taxation in the circumstances set out in the agreement, but you'll need documentation to support any claims for double taxation relief.12
