Airwallex Yield: UK Availability, Returns and Risks

Paola Faben Oliveira

Airwallex Yield is a cash-management product UK businesses may be researching, but it isn't currently available in the UK. Nevertheless, in this guide we've explained how Airwallex Yield works in markets where it is offered - the currencies, liquidity, fees and risks to check.

We've also introduced Wise Interest as a way to earn a return on GBP, USD and EUR balances by investing in a fund that holds government-guaranteed assets (growth not guaranteed).

Airwallex Yield at a glance

QuestionCurrent answer

What is it?A product that gives customers the opportunity to earn returns on multi-currency balances through investments in money market funds, where available.2
Which currencies are supported? They differ by market. Airwallex's current regional guide lists AUD and USD in Australia and New Zealand; HKD, USD, GBP and EUR in Hong Kong; SGD and USD in Singapore; GBP, EUR and USD in Europe; and USD in the US.1
Can funds be accessed quickly?Airwallex's UK product page says funds generally settle back to cash balances within 1–2 business days. Its ANZ guidance says most withdrawals settle within 1–3 business days and notes an end-of-month distribution exception.2,3
Is it a savings account? No. Airwallex's ANZ documentation describes Yield as a managed investment scheme product and says investments carry risks. The applicable UK product terms should be checked if the product launches.3

What is Airwallex Yield?

Airwallex Yield is designed to give businesses the opportunity to earn returns on funds held in their Airwallex Wallet. Airwallex's UK Yield page describes investments in low-risk money market funds and no minimum lock-up period, but the service is marked “Coming soon” for the UK.2

That distinction matters. A UK business can research how Yield operates elsewhere, but it shouldn't assume it can open a Yield account, invest a GBP balance or receive the same terms in the UK.

Is Airwallex Yield available in the UK?

No. According to Airwallex's regional Yield guide, Yield isn't currently available in the UK, Canada or other unlisted regions.1

Airwallex's UK product page includes a “Join the waitlist” prompt. Availability, onboarding, eligible entities, currencies, fees and product documentation may change before a UK launch, so check the current page before making a business decision.2

How does Airwallex Yield work where it is offered?

In markets where Yield is available, Airwallex describes a workflow where a customer signs up for a Yield account within the app, moves money between its Wallet and Yield account, tracks returns and requests a withdrawal when needed.2

The details vary by region. For example, Airwallex's ANZ guidance explains that customers can invest AUD and USD in the Airwallex Yield Liquidity Fund, which invests nearly all of its assets in a money market fund managed by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.3

That ANZ description is useful context, not a promise of the future UK setup. Product structure, available currencies, settlement times and documentation can differ by market.

Airwallex Yield currencies and rates

Airwallex's regional guide lists the currencies currently supported in each market. The UK isn't included because Yield isn't currently available there.1

Rates can change and aren't a reliable basis for deciding whether a future UK product will suit your business. Airwallex directs existing users to the Yield section of their wallet or its regional pricing pages for current rates.1,3

For that reason, this guide doesn't repeat a fixed percentage rate. If Yield becomes available to your business, review the rate, its calculation method, all fees and the product documents that apply to your entity and region at that time.

What fees, risks and tax points should businesses check?

Yield is an investment product, so a stated return isn't the same as interest on a cash deposit. Airwallex's ANZ guidance says Yield is a managed investment scheme, isn't a savings account and isn't covered by the Australian Financial Claims Scheme or Australian Government Guarantee Scheme.3

That is an ANZ product disclosure, rather than a statement about any future UK product. Before investing business funds in any cash-management or investment product, check the relevant local terms, fund documents, fees, liquidity arrangements, tax treatment and professional advice for your circumstances.

Can you join the Airwallex Yield waitlist in the UK?

Airwallex's UK Yield page currently includes a “Join the waitlist” prompt.2 Joining a waitlist doesn't guarantee eligibility, access, a particular rate or a launch date.

If you're interested, use the current Airwallex page and read any terms presented during the sign-up journey. Keep your day-to-day operating cash separate from any funds you may consider investing, based on your business's own cash-flow needs and professional advice.
