The Scousers’ Guide to Liverpool

A one-stop shop for all things Liverpool — by Liverpudlians.

With 100,000 sequinned, song-loving fans set to descend on the city for Eurovision, Wise has teamed up with Danny Beard, Liverpool royalty and winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, and polled 1,000 Liverpudlians, to get the inside scoop on the best things to see and do.

Most tourists head to London on their first visit to the UK, but Liverpool is overlooked as a tourist destination, despite the nightlife, food and culture it offers (and 57% of Liverpudlians agree!)

Tourist traps be gone — get ready to sing, dance, and sashay your way through the city’s top hotspots — as chosen by its locals.

The best and worst

We asked Liverpudlians what they loved the most (and the least!) about their city. For those looking to party the night away, some good news: 41% agreed that the best thing about the city is the people, so you’ll be in good company!

Liverpool has produced many a celeb, from Kim Cattrall to Atomic Kitten, so we had to put it to a vote to see who would come out on top. Paul O’Grady was voted the most popular Liverpudlian, earning far more votes than other Scouse greats like John Lennon and Paul McCartney. While Liverpudlians are very proud of their city — one third think it should be the capital of the UK — we also wanted to get the goss on what they don’t love as much.

Danny Beard with The Beatles Statues

The answer was a resounding one: Everton Football Club! The club was only half as popular as their Mersey rivals, Liverpool, and was voted as Liverpudlians’ least favourite thing to do by a staggering 10%. Perhaps this finding isn’t surprising, given the current form shown at Goodison Park…
