CULTURE AND NIGHTLIFE

The Scousers' Guide to Liverpool

The birthplace of The Beatles, steeped in history, packed with cultural hotspots, tasty restaurants, funky bars… you could say Liverpool has one or two good things to offer.

A third of Liverpudlians say the nightlife is their favourite thing about the city, so you’re in a good place to dance the night away — whether you’re more electropop and sequins, or more Beatles, flares and 60s ‘staches.

While Eurovision might be top of your list, don’t miss out on a visit to the Cavern Club, or a jaunt across the Mersey on the famous ferry.

During the day, there’s lots of places for you to get your cultural fix — 35% of Liverpudlians are proud of the city’s history. Locals recommend paying a visit to the Liverpool World Museum (27%) or Liverpool Cathedral (23%).

If you’re feeling sporty, check if there’s a football game on and head to Anfield (24%) to soak in the Liverpudlian pride.

Maybe after a few drinks on Mathew Street, you can hit up Popworld, voted the city’s best club (12%) — or Heebie Jeebies (11%) or Flares (11%) which ranked second and third. If you can’t choose, you can just hop between a few, as many of Liverpool’s bars are located close together in the city centre. You’re not in London any more, Toto!

If you have a second day in Liverpool — great news, you have lots left to see! Start with the Tate Liverpool, then head for some food on Bold Street. In the afternoon, head to picturesque Crosby Beach to see the famous Iron Men (a great opp for an Instagram pic if ever there was one). If that’s not enough for you to get your dose of nature, round off the day strolling around Sefton Park.

Not bad for a weekend, huh?
