Have a flight booked with Aer Lingus but need to cancel it? No problem.
In this handy guide, we’ll walk you through the process, including how to cancel Aer Lingus flights and whether you can get a refund.
We’ll even throw in a handy money-saving tip for when you do finally get to travel - the Wise travel money card. This could give you much more for your money when it comes to holiday spending.
But for now, let’s focus on getting those Aer Lingus flights sorted out.
There are a few different ways you can cancel or change your Aer Lingus flight bookings.
If you made your original booking on aerlingus.com, you can amend it using the Manage Trip facility¹.
You can also cancel a booking by completing a Refund Request form², which will cancel the selected flight at the same time as requesting a refund (if eligible).
If you prefer, you can also call Aer Lingus customer services to cancel or amend your booking, or if you need help. Here are the numbers to call³:
- From the UK: 0333 004 5000
- From Ireland: (01) 761 7834
You can find global customer support numbers here.
If your flight is to or from the US, you can cancel it within 24 hours of booking and get a full refund. However, this is only for bookings made at least 7 days in advance of departure.
For other flights, you can cancel your booking up to two hours before the scheduled departure time.
If you accidentally make a duplicate booking, you can get a refund if you notify Aer Lingus using a Refund Request Form within 24 hours.
Aer Lingus does offer refunds, but only in certain circumstances. Here’s what you need to know²:
- If you’ve booked a Saver or Plus fare, you won’t be able to get a refund
- If you’ve booked an Advantage or AerSpace fare, you can get a full refund if you cancel up to two hours before your flight is due to depart
- You can submit a Refund Request Form if you need to cancel due to the death of a passenger or immediate family member.
If Covid-19 has disrupted your plans, don’t worry. Aer Lingus has brought in a new policy in response to the pandemic disruption, which effectively does away with change fees up to 30th September 2022⁴.
This means that if you can’t travel due to testing positive for Covid-19 or new entry requirements brought in by your destination country, you can amend your flights for free. You’ll only need to pay the difference in fare, if any.
If Aer Lingus cancels your flight, you can change your booking, request a full refund or apply for a voucher on the airline’s website⁵.
You may also have the right to receive Aer Lingus flight cancellation compensation in certain circumstances. For example, if the replacement flight you’re offered delays your journey by 2 hours or more, and you’re given less than 2 weeks’ notice⁶.
When you do eventually get to take your flight, the Wise debit card is the perfect money-saving travel companion to take with you. This clever contactless card automatically converts currency at the fairest rate when you spend, without charging any foreign transaction fees.
There’s only a tiny charge to convert the currency, or it’s free if you already have the currency in your Wise multi-currency account. This could save you a bundle on your holiday spending, without involving a single trip to the Bureau de Change.
After reading this guide, you should be all clued up on how to cancel Aer Lingus flights and how to get a refund if eligible. You’re all set to make or change your plans - good luck!
