Mauritius has a mild climate throughout the year and there are only two seasons - summer and winter. In order to avoid the rainiest and hottest days, it’s best to travel there between April and June and from September to December. However, this also means that the prices can be higher at this time.
If you’re into surfing and want to visit during the windiest season, book a holiday in July or August.
Where you’ll want to stay will depend on your preferences when it comes to holiday activities. While the whole island is breathtakingly beautiful, here are some of the best honeymoon destinations in Mauritius:
If you and your soulmate would like to indulge, party or shop on your vacation, Grand Baie at the north coast of Mauritius is your best option. This area is packed with restaurants, luxurious shops and bustling nightclubs, but there are also smaller islets you could escape to for a peaceful break.
The west part of the island is ideal if you’d like to try some water sports. Flic-en-Flac and Trou aux Biches are perfect for snorkelling, diving, kayaking, or just swimming in the crystal-clear waters.
The east of Mauritius is where the most luxurious hotels and resorts are located. The Belle Mare region has some of the best beaches on the island, but it can get very windy during the winter months.
Mauritius is not only known for its beaches, but also for its forested hills and waterfalls. If you like an active vacation, the Chamarel region has fantastic hiking and mountain biking trails you could enjoy.
Now that we’ve covered when and where you should go to Mauritius, let’s see how much it will cost to get there. The flight prices can vary based on various factors, such as how early you book and which season you pick.
For example, if you’d like to visit Mauritius this November, you can expect to pay between £700 and £800 per person on average. Keep in mind that these are the costs for flying economy and upgrading to business or first class will certainly raise the price.3
On the other hand, flights in April of next year can cost up to £1,000 per person. Choosing your dates carefully could help you secure a good deal.4
There are both budget and luxurious accommodation options in Mauritius. The cost also depends on the time of year you choose for your honeymoon.
On average, the prices start at around £30 a night in a low-cost hotel or guesthouse. Staying in a mid-range hotel with more amenities will cost you around £100 to £200 per night. Finally, booking a more luxurious villa or resort costs upward of £200 per night.
Keep in mind that these prices can vary and change anytime, so contacting hotels directly is your safest option.
In case you don’t want to book flights and accommodation separately, you can book a package deal for Mauritius. There are many providers and agencies you can choose from and you’ll surely find something that suits you.
For example, if you book through British Airways, 7 nights in a 5-star hotel in Mauritius starts at around £1,300 per person, flight included. Their 3-star hotel and flight deal costs around £400 less in total for the two of you.
The prices in Mauritius are much lower compared to the UK, so you’ll certainly be able to save money on daily expenses. For example, a three-course meal for two people costs around £27 on average and taking the local public transport costs just over £0.60. You could even save up when shopping, since clothes and shoes can cost up to 40% less.7
When it comes to day trips you could take during your honeymoon, their prices start at around £50 on average. This includes cruises, snorkelling, waterfall hikes and many more.8
