Chime transfer limits [2025]

Alexis Konovodoff

Chime is a financial technology company that offers banking services through partnerships with The Bancorp Bank and Stride Bank.¹ When you open an account with Chime, you get a Visa® Debit card and a checking account that you can manage through the Chime app.

Chime doesn't publicly disclose its transfer limits on its website, which can be frustrating if you're considering opening an account and need to know how much you can transfer.

If you already have an account with Chime, you can view your specific limits in your account settings. These limits depend on your account history and the type of transaction that you want to make.²

💡 Chime can work well for domestic transfers, but it doesn't allow you to send internationally.³ You'll need to use an alternative like Wise, which comes with low fees and high transfer limits.

Chime transfer limits overview

If you already have an account with Chime, you can check your personal limits through the mobile app by following these steps:²

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Account Info
  3. Go to View limits

These limits can change at any time, and Chime will send you an email if they do. Chime doesn't explain why your limits may change, but it likely has to do with your account standing and activity.

💡 Different types of limits apply to different types of transactions.

For example, Chime sets a daily cap on your total spending and withdrawal amounts (though there's no restriction on how many separate transactions you can make within that limit).⁴

Your daily purchase limit includes all of these activities:⁴

  • Service fees
  • Cash from ATMs
  • Money withdrawn at bank or credit union counters
  • Cash back received during store purchases
  • Regular purchases with your card

For Chime's popular Pay Anyone service, the company simply states that the "transfer limits vary" and instructs Chime customers to check their app for more specifics.²

Chime international transfer limits

Chime doesn't support international money transfers. If you need to send money internationally, you'll need to use a third-party service like Wise or PayPal.³

You can use your Chime Visa® Debit card internationally, but you can't initiate international transfers from your Chime account.

What’s the best way to send money internationally?

Banks are certainly one option for sending money internationally, as are services like PayPal. But the problem with banks is they can often be slow, expensive and inconvenient. Luckily, there’s a better alternative out there.

You can send money worldwide with Wise for low fees and the mid-market exchange rate. It’s easy and quick to set up a payment online, and you’re guaranteed secure transfers even when sending large sums.

Wise is a money service business (MSB) regulated by 12 international financial authorities, and uses sophisticated security features to keep you and your money safe.

Open a Wise account, and you can send, spend and convert between 40+ currencies whenever you need to. You can even receive money from all over the world using your own local account details.

As if all that wasn’t enough, there’s a Wise Multi-Currency Card, too. For a one-time fee of just $9, you can spend in over 150 countries in the local currency. Your USD is automatically converted at the mid-market rate for just a small conversion fee.

How can you check your Chime transfer limits?

You can check your Chime instant transfer limit (and other transaction limits) in the Chime app. Here's how:²

  1. Open your Settings
  2. Scroll to Account Info
  3. Select View limits

These limits aren't fixed — they may adjust over time, and you'll receive an email from Chime if there are any changes to your account.

Can you increase your transfer limits at Chime?

Chime doesn't publish a formal process for raising your transfer limits, so it may not be possible to increase your transfer limit.

That said, you can reach out to Chime's support team to discuss potential increases. Here's how you can get in touch:⁵

  • In-app chat support: Open the Chime app and tap the chat icon (speech bubble with question mark)
  • Phone support: You can call Chime at 1-844-244-6363 and speak directly with a live representative

Both support options are available 24/7.

Having a positive account history with regular deposits will typically help your case, but it ultimately may not be possible to increase your Chime transfer limit per day or overall.

What are your online transfer limits with Chime?

Chime doesn't have any physical branches, so all transfers are online transfers. To view your current transfer limits, you can check your Chime app.

These limits can depend on a few different factors, such as the type of transfer that you want to make and how long you've had an account with Chime.

What are Chime's transfer fees and charges?

Chime makes money primarily through interchange fees — the small charges merchants pay when you use your card.⁶

When you swipe your Chime debit card, the merchant pays Visa® a processing fee. Visa® shares a portion of this fee with Chime, and these small amounts add up across millions of transactions.

As a result, Chime offers most services without charging you directly — there are no monthly maintenance fees, minimum balance requirements, or foreign transaction fees.⁶

Chime's Pay Anyone feature for money transfers also comes without fees.²

That said, there are a few fees that you need to be aware of.

FeeFee amount⁷
Cash Withdrawal Fee (applies to both ATM and over-the-counter withdrawals)2.50 USD per transaction for out-of-network ATM withdrawals
Instant Transfer of funds out of your checking account to a provided destination account (ITFO Service)1.75% of the total amount transferred

However, it’s important to know that the recipient's bank might charge their own fees for incoming transfers, which is beyond Chime's control.

Things to keep in mind when transferring high amounts

Moving large amounts of money usually involves more scrutiny than sending a simple 25 USD transfer to a friend. Here's what to expect:

  • You may need to provide additional documents to verify your identity and the purpose of the transfer
  • Transfer processing times can take longer
  • Financial service providers like Chime typically have lower limits than banks

If you're approaching your limit, you can try splitting large transfers into smaller chunks. It can also be helpful to contact customer support before sending an unusually high transfer so that they don't flag your account.

No one Chime transfer limit applies to all accounts. Your limits depend on the transaction type and your account history. You can find them in your Chime app (Settings → Account info → View limits).²

These limits can change, in which case Chime will send you an email.

If you're considering opening an account with Chime, not knowing how much you can send through the platform can make you feel uncertain about Chime's capacity to handle your transfer needs.

Keep in mind that you also can't send international money transfers — Chime only allows for money transfers within the US.³

To send money to 160 countries with low fees, high transfer limits, and no exchange rate markups, use Wise.
