MoneyGram sets transfer limits to protect their customers and comply with financial regulations.
For most countries, MoneyGram has a limit of 10,000 USD per online transfer, with a maximum of 10,000 USD within any 30-day period.¹
For example, if you send 5,000 USD on the 1st of the month, you could send another 5,000 USD before the month ends. That would make you reach your 30-day limit, and you'd need to wait until it resets to send more.
💡 If you're sending money within the US, the maximum send amount increases to 15,000 USD.²
These general limits aren't always fixed and can ultimately depend on a few different factors, such as:
- Your payment method (bank account, debit card, or credit card)
- Country you're sending money from
- Destination country
- Chosen receipt method (cash pickup, bank deposit, or mobile wallet)
To check your transfer limits, you can log into your MoneyGram account and start the process of sending money.
Keep in mind that MoneyGram can also ask you for extra documents to verify large transactions.
For international transfers, MoneyGram generally applies the standard limit of 10,000 USD per day. This same MoneyGram limit is also the maximum total you can send across all transactions within any 30-day period.¹
However, different countries have different MoneyGram online international transfer limits. For example, users in Chile can only send 5,000 USD per transfer.¹

The easiest way to check your MoneyGram transfer limit per day or month is to log in to your account and begin the transfer process.
As you enter details about your recipient and select your payment methods, MoneyGram will display the maximum amount you can send for that wire transfer.
Your MoneyGram limit depends on a few factors, such as where you're sending money to and how you're paying for your transfer. However, you can typically assume the standard limit of 10,000 USD per transfer and within 30 days.¹
It's unlikely that you'll be able to send more than that without getting in touch with MoneyGram.
You can potentially work around MoneyGram's transfer limit when you need to send larger amounts, but it may not always be possible.
There are 2 steps that you can take:
You'll likely have to provide extra documents and information about the purpose of your transfer, so be prepared to explain where the money is coming from and why you need to send it through MoneyGram.
MoneyGram doesn't have fixed transfer fees. Instead, the cost of your transaction will depend on factors like:
- The amount you're sending
- Your location (sending country)
- The destination country
- Your chosen payment method (bank account, debit card, or credit card)
- The recipient's preferred collection method (bank deposit, cash pickup, or mobile wallet)
Generally speaking, paying with a credit or debit card costs more than transferring directly from your bank account. You can use MoneyGram's online fee estimator tool to check how much you'll pay in fees.³
Keep in mind that in addition to the transfer fee, MoneyGram also makes money on currency conversion when you send money internationally.⁵
Instead of using the mid-market exchange rate, MoneyGram adds a markup to this rate. This markup is an extra built-in fee that you have to pay.
Large transfers often come with more scrutiny because of anti-money laundering regulations. Here are a few things that you should be aware of:
Purpose documentation: Be ready to explain the reason for your transfer. MoneyGram may ask you to show documents that explain where you got the funds (such as your work or investments) and why you're sending them to your recipient
Sending multiple transfers: If you need to send more than MoneyGram's typical limit, you can space out multiple transfers to stay compliant with the rolling limits¹
Exchange rate impact: For large international transfers, even small differences in exchange rates can have a big impact on how much money actually reaches your recipient. Make sure to compare rates with a few different providers before committing to MoneyGram
Recipient verification: Your recipient may need to show extra identification or documents to pick up a large amount of money or get it deposited into their bank account
Potential delays: If you have to go through security reviews and extra verification steps, your transaction will likely take longer to get to your recipient
If you need to send a large amount, it can be a good idea to get in touch with MoneyGram and ask if they need anything for the transfer to go smoothly before you initiate the transaction.
