What you need to know about sending payments from IDR

Wise

With Wise, sending payments from Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is simple. And we’ve rounded up our top tips for you to make sure your transfer arrives as quickly as possible.

1. Set up your transfer before you pay for it

Before you send money from your bank account to fund your transfer, you’ll first need to set up the transfer in your Wise account.

When you set up your transfer, you can choose Manual Bank Transfer at the payment step. We’ll provide you with virtual account details that you can send your money to — these should only be used to fund this transfer, and not for topping up your Wise balance.

If you’re sending multiple transfers at once, please pay for them separately by making multiple transfers, instead of a single payment. This will help us to get your money moving faster.

What happens if you pay before you set up your transfer?

This depends on where you sent the money from. If the deposit to your virtual wise account was made from:

  • a bank account in your own name, we’ll refund it within the hour
  • a bank account that’s not in your own name, we’ll hold it securely held until we can confirm that it came from you, or until you reach out with a valid Proof of Payment

2. Fund your transfer from an account in your own name

When you send money from your bank account or digital wallet, it’ll need to come from an account in your own name. We’re unable to process payments sent from your friends or family, unless the money comes from a joint account that you co-own.

If we receive money to your virtual account from anyone other than you, we’ll hold it securely held until we can confirm that it came from you, or until you reach out with a valid Proof of Payment.

3. Make sure to send your money to the right virtual account

Once you’ve set up your transfer to IDR, you’ll be given a unique virtual account number where you can send the money to fund this transfer. It’s a good idea to save it as a recipient on your banking app or portal. This will mean the next time you fund an IDR transfer, you’ll already have the details so there’s less room for error.
