How do payments work on Cyberghost?

CyberGhost is a VPN provider from Romania that protects your team's online activity, IP address and location from third parties. CyberGhost is not a payment platform, but you can pay for CyberGhost subscriptions via the website or app checkout using accepted payment methods.

Some of CyberGhost's payment methods include debit/credit cards, PayPal and Bitpay. Alternatively, you can also pay for CyberGhost subscriptions through third-party resellers like App Store, Google Play, Microsoft Store, and Amazon Appstore.

CyberGhost doesn't store your payment information, such as credit/debit card numbers or wallet keys, but third-party resellers and payment processors may store them.

Making payments on CyberGhost as a business

There are no separate CyberGhost payment terms or plans for businesses. Both individuals and businesses can pay for the same subscriptions via the CyberGhost pricing page using any of the accepted payment methods, or by downloading the app and paying with an Apple ID or a Google account.

The payment process varies depending on whether you are a new customer or an existing customer.

  1. Visit the CyberGhost pricing page.
  2. Select your preferred subscription plan– 1 month, 6 months or 26 months, and any add-ons.

  4. Enter your email address and credit card, PayPal or BitPay details
  5. Review your order summary and click "Complete your purchase"

  7. Lastly, you'll be directed to your CyberGhost web account to start installing the app on your devices.

How to pay for CyberGhost as an existing customer

You'll need to log in to your online account management page to renew, upgrade or extend your CyberGhost subscription. There, you'll find your account information and how much time is left of your existing subscription. If you extend an existing subscription, CyberGhost may rollover unused days depending on the plan and payment method you use.

Payment fees when sending money

It's helpful to be aware of any CyberGhost payment processing fees or additional payment charges before paying for subscriptions on the platform. While you may incur some payment processing fees when paying for CyberGhost subscriptions, keep in mind that these fees are not necessarily from CyberGhost.

Some card issuers or payment providers may charge you when you subscribe. Understanding these fees will help you plan your business expenses and not be caught off guard. Here are some payment charges and additional costs you may encounter when paying for your subscription:

  • VAT/Taxes: CyberGhost may add VAT/Taxes to your subscription costs depending on where you live and what your local tax laws are.
  • Foreign transaction fee: CyberGhost charges for its plans in USD. So if you are based in the UK or any other country outside the US, you'll need to make a foreign transaction to be able to pay for your subscription. The payment method you use can determine how much you pay in foreign transaction fees. For instance, if you are paying with a credit/debit card, you can expect to pay around 1 to 3% of the subscription amount. If you are paying internationally with PayPal, you may be charged a cross-border fee of around 5% of your subscription amount (capped at 2.99 GBP)².
  • Network/Miner fees: Cyberghost accepts Bitcoin via Bitpay as a payment method. If you pay for your business's CyberGhost subscription with crypto, you may be charged network (miner) fees. The amount you pay as network fees fluctuates based on network activity.
  • Currency-conversion fee: If you are paying in any currency different from USD, your payment provider may charge you a currency conversion fee. This fee is different from foreign transaction processing fees, although they may be merged. Your credit/debit card network can charge you around 1-3% of the amount you're paying.

Tips for managing payments on Zoom

  • Monitor your dashboard: Check your online account dashboard regularly to stay up to date on payments. From your online account dashboard, you can easily pay subscriptions, cancel subscriptions or change or update payment methods. If you made payments through a third-party platform like the App Store, you'll need to manage payments from there.
  • Set up/Cancel autorenewal: Your CyberGhost account is set on auto-renewal by default. This is great if your business frequently relies on VPNs to complete tasks. But if you only need VPNs occasionally, it's best to cancel auto-renewals to avoid accidental purchases.
  • Avoid using VPNs during payment: VPNs hide your IP address and can make it look like you are connecting from a different location. Using a VPN while paying may trigger fraud detection and lead to failed payments.
  • Restrict access to billing: Paying via credit cards, PayPal, BitPay, or any of CyberGhost's payment methods requires you to share sensitive information. Restricting billing to one team member/team helps prevent data leaks or privacy breaches.
