The Best European Cities For UK Students - Zurich

###Based on the factors you selected, the city perfect for you is… ZURICH

####A happy, safe city

Zurich is a really easy city to live in. The crime rates are low, the trams are alarmingly on time, and litter is so rare it feels like a relic from a distant past. Zurich’s nickname is the ‘big small town’, which is a testament to the city’s warm and cosy atmosphere. If you ever do feel homesick though, there’ll be at least a few Brits on hand to make you feel better. While the student population only makes up 2.5% of the city’s population, the international student community makes up a quarter (26%) of it.

####Culture

Despite its straight-laced reputation, Zurich has rebellious undercurrents. The city is the ancestral home of the Dadaist movement, and is still deeply influenced by it. Cabaret Voltaire, an eclectic bar/ art space, is said to have inspired many of the movement’s artists and writers. Nowadays it's firmly entrenched as a hotbed of artistic expression.

####Nightlife

While Zurich’s nightlife may not have the wildest of reputations, you shouldn’t overlook it. Old shipyards and factories in Zuri-West, the old industrial quarter, have been reimagined and now play host to the city’s trendiest bars and clubs. In summer the city hosts the largest outdoor rave in the whole of Europe.

####Nature

Zurich is located right on the banks of the aptly named Lake Zurich and is probably one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Nestled in the breathtaking Swiss Alps, Zurich offers the perfect balance between cosmopolitan buzz and rural idyll. In summer, residents can take a plunge in one of the city’s many lidos to make the most of the limited sunshine season. With the Alps just a day trip away, Zurich offers no shortage of snow sports to keep you warm through the long winter months.

####Cost of Living

A huge downside to student living in Zurich is the cost of living, it’s pricey. In fact, Zurich was recently named the third most expensive city in the world. To give you an example of just how costly this city is, a cup of coffee will cost you around €5,00 and a ‘cheap’ meal out will cost you close to €23,00. If you choose this city to study, you may have to get creative.
