Stripe also handles 250 million or more API requests a day, and has a historical uptime of over 99.999%.

How does Stripe work?

Stripe is a payments gateway. It allows businesses to receive secure card payments by relaying messages between the card network and issuing bank during a transaction.

When you accept a payment through Stripe, your customer enters their card details, which are encrypted and passed to the card network. The card network confirms whether the payment can be approved with the issuing bank4.

Businesses can register with Stripe and start taking payments online quickly. Options include prebuilt checkout pages or custom solutions using developer tools. Payment links are also available for sending directly to customers.
