New to PayPal? If you’ve just opened an account, you’ll want to know more about what you can do with PayPal. And crucially, whether there are any limits on sending money and other transactions.
In this handy guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about PayPal sending limits. This includes how to find out what your account’s sending limit is, and how to increase it.
And for those times when you need to send larger sums, we’ll look at an alternative solution - the Wise multi-currency account.
The easiest way to find out your PayPal sending limits is by logging into your account. Head to paypal.com, login and see whether any restrictions apply to your account. This may be in ‘Notifications’ at the top of the page.
Alternatively, you can start to set up a payment, and you’ll be notified if the amount exceeds the permitted limit.
The most common reason why your PayPal account may have a sending limit is because it’s new.
When you first sign up to PayPal, your account will initially have an ‘Unverified’ status. This will be changed to ‘Verified’ once you link and confirm your bank account and debit/credit card¹.
Until then, you’ll have limits on how much you can send, receive and withdraw.
PayPal doesn’t have details of specific spending limits on its website, so you may need to login to your account to check your own individual limits.
However, other sources suggest that for Unverified accounts, the maximum you can send is £1,000 and the most you can receive is £1,900².
Once your account is Verified, you should be able to spend between £10,000 and £60,000 using PayPal³.
The best way to increase your PayPal sending limit is to get your account Verified as quickly as possible. Follow these steps⁴:
With the Wise multi-currency account, it’s easy to check the sending limits for your chosen currency - just click here and choose your currency.
