How to make money and get paid on Vinted

Emma-Jane Stogdon

If you’re new to Vinted or just getting into it, you might need a bit of guidance on how to navigate the app. One of the most important things to figure out is how to sell your items and earn some money on the side.

So, how do you get paid on Vinted? Or, in other words, how does Vinted pay you? Whether you’re a UK citizen or an expat, this guide will help you get started and walk you through everything you need to know.

What is Vinted?

Vinted is an online marketplace where you can buy and sell second-hand clothing, electronics and a variety of other items. It’s an easy way to declutter your space and earn some extra cash.1

How do you get paid on Vinted?

The most important question is, how do you get paid on Vinted? Let’s walk through the process of making a sale and receiving your payment.

1. Set up a profile and list your items

Be sure to include clear photos and write an accurate description of your items.

2. Sell an item and ship it

Once you sell an item, you have 5 working days to ship it to the buyer. The buyer chooses their preferred shipping method.2

3. Wait for the money in your Vinted Balance

Your money will be on hold until the buyer confirms they’ve received the item and that there are no issues, similar to how it works with eBay. Once approved, the funds will be released to your Vinted Balance.2

4. Withdraw to your account

If you haven’t done so already, add your account details to your Vinted account by following the steps on the app. Once that’s set up, go to your Vinted Balance and choose ‘Withdraw to bank account’.3 Despite the wording, you can add a Wise account here, too. Wise isn’t a bank, but our accounts work in a similar way.

Don’t forget‼️

New digital platform regulations came into effect in January 2024. If you have sold at least 30 items or earned roughly £1,700, Vinted will notify HMRC. However, this doesn’t automatically mean you’ll owe tax - it depends on what you’re selling and why.4

What to sell on Vinted

Here are some of the things you can sell on Vinted, along with a list of forbidden items:

✅Things you can sell5⛔Things you can’t sell5

What does ‘bumped’ mean on Vinted?

An item bump is a paid feature on Vinted that boosts the visibility of your listing. It works by placing your item higher in search results for 3 or 7 days.11

The cost of a bump depends on your item’s price. For items priced at £500 or more, the bump fee is 3% of the price. For items under £500, the fee ranges from 3% to 8% plus a fixed charge between £0.30 and £0.80.8

Can you sell internationally on Vinted?

So, can you sell internationally on Vinted? Unfortunately, that’s not possible at the moment. Some delivery providers, like Relay, don’t even ship to all parts of the UK.9

However, this could change in the future and Vinted might open up to other markets for UK citizens and expats. This is where a Wise account could come in handy, as it will help you save on conversion fees*. If you receive a Vinted payment from abroad, Wise can offer you the mid-market exchange rate, ensuring better value for your money.

Alternatively, you could even use a Wise account to receive your Vinted funds from sales in the UK, so that you can use it as spending money on your next trip abroad, without needing to worry about converting the currency before you go!

How to transfer money from Vinted to your Wise account

Here’s how you can withdraw money to your Wise account:

  • Add your Wise account details to your Vinted profile (Tip: you can find your Wise account number and sort code information in the Wise app)
  • Go to your Vinted Balance
  • Select ‘Withdraw to bank account’ - even though Wise is not a bank, you can still enter Wise account details here
  • Wait up to 5 business days for the money to arrive3

Save money when selling on Vinted with Wise

Vinted is an excellent platform for earning money and exchanging items with others. While international shipping isn’t available at the moment, a Wise account could be a helpful option if this feature becomes available.

Open a Wise account online to hold and exchange 40+ currencies. Wise automatically converts currency at the mid-market exchange rate with only a small, transparent fee*. Even if you’re using a mail or package forwarding service, Wise can help you avoid getting hit with additional hefty or hidden currency exchange fees*.
