What is Chargebee?

Chargebee is a specialist in UK and international business services including subscription management and recurring billing, pricing and payment optimisation, revenue recognition, collections, and customer retention.

Chargebee works with a very broad range of UK and international customers, including businesses in SaaS, education, ecommerce, media and publishing, and OTT/video customers looking for subscription and billing management services.

As well as standard subscription management, Chargebee also offers billing for businesses which work on a usage based model, which can mean different billed amounts, unlike a regular and standard payment.

Chargebee customers can invoice and charge customers in 227 countries and territories and in 100+ currencies, through a broad selection of payment gateways. In fact, Chargebee works with over 30 payment gateways and also integrates with a broad range of other apps and service providers, to streamline business operations and allow you to manage your subscription business without unnecessary admin.

How does Chargebee work?

Chargebee’s core services hinge around subscription management and recurring billing. Chargebee allows subscription business owners to take payments at regular intervals, with extra options such as failed payment re-tries.

When a customer signs up to a service, they’ll get an invoice or bill through Chargebee, and add their card details which are securely stored and managed. The business owner will be paid through their preferred payment gateway. Then, the next time that the payment is due, the cycle repeats. Chargebee can automatically generate a recurring invoice which can be paid with the customer’s stored card details. If the card has no money or expires, Chargebee offers solutions to attempt the transaction again, and can also support dispute resolution with customers and their banks.

Chargebee also offers many adjacent services, such as ways to offer free trials to new customers, options to issue discounts and vouchers, retention tools, and analytics to track and monitor business performance more closely. You can use Chargebee to test out different pricing or subscription models, to build different offer models by customer, and to manage retention strategies. This can mean you can bring your subscription based business to market faster, and with a higher chance of success through thorough testing and monitoring.
