In this guide, we’ll be taking a close look at using Lebara abroad. We’ll run through how international roaming works with the network, and whether there are any charges you need to know about.
And while you’re making your holiday preparations, make sure you check out the Wise card from the money services provider Wise.

Lebara does permit international roaming, so you will be able to use your phone when you go on holiday. Whether there are any roaming charges depends on the destination.
You don’t need to tell Lebara that you’ll be going abroad, but you will need to:
Lebara offers free roaming in Europe, as well as India. This means you’ll be able to use the allowances on your UK plan in included countries.
Most EU and EEA countries are covered under Lebara’s Roam Like Home offer. This includes popular holiday destinations like France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Cyprus. And as an added bonus, you can roam for free in India.¹
If you’re on an unlimited data plan with Lebara, it’s useful to know that there’s a cap of 30GB while roaming.¹ Roam Like Home is also only designed for holidays and short trips, so you may face charges if using it for long periods of time spent in another country.
If you’re travelling outside the EU/EEA or India, you’ll need to buy a Roaming Add-on in order to use Lebara while abroad.
The cost of these varies depending on where you’re going and for how long. But as a guide, it’ll cost you £10 for 2GB of data, 200 minutes and 100 texts to get an 8-Day Roaming Add-on for the USA.²
If you’re not roaming in Europe or India, and haven’t bought a Roaming Add-on, it’s useful to know what charges you may face.
Lebara international roaming charges vary by destination. To give you an idea of what to expect, here are the Lebara PAYG roaming charges for a few popular destinations:
Destination | Making calls (local or to the UK) | Receiving calls | Sending texts | Data |
---|---|---|---|---|
USA² | 49p/min | 49p/min | 49p/text | 9p/MB |
Turkey³ | 49p/min | 49p/min | 49p/text | 9p/MB |
Australia⁴ | 49p/min | 49p/min | 49p/text | 9p/MB |
Thailand⁵ | 49p/min | 49p/min | 49p/text | 9p/MB |
Now that you’re all clued up on roaming with Lebara, it’s time to think about how you’ll spend during your trip.
The Wise card is the ideal travel companion, as it lets you spend and withdraw in the local currency in 150+ countries.
Your pounds are automatically converted at the mid-market exchange rate whenever you spend, without any margins or mark-ups. You’ll just pay a small conversion fee, or no fee if you already have the currency in your Wise account.
Open a Wise account online and you can order your own Wise card for a one-time cost of just £7.
Please see the Terms of Use for your region or visit Wise fees & pricing for the most up-to-date information on pricing and fees.
And that’s it - our handy guide to using Lebara abroad, including info on where you can roam for free and the roaming add-ons you can buy for everywhere else.
If you’re travelling outside of the free roaming zone and are worried about expensive roaming charges, it could be sensible to turn data roaming off before you travel.
