To open a current account at Barclays, you’ll need to be:¹
To join as a Barclays private banking customer, you’ll need to have a gross annual income of at least £75,000. You’ll also be eligible if you have savings/investments of at least £100,000 held with the bank.¹
For most Barclays savings accounts, you’ll need to be at least 16 years old and a UK resident to apply.³

To apply for a current account at Barclays, you’ll need to provide the following documents:³
You’ll need to provide your contact details, address and other personal details, such as your date of birth and nationality. Barclays may also ask about your income and employment.
If you’re opening a student bank account with Barclays, you’ll likely be asked to provide a valid form of student ID.
Once you’ve gathered together your ID and other documents, it’s time to apply for your new bank account.
There are two ways you can do it, either online or through the Barclays mobile app.⁴

Whether you use the mobile app or complete the process on your laptop or desktop computer, you should find it relatively quick and easy.
If you apply for your new account via the mobile app, Barclays says it should take around 10-15 minutes to complete your application.⁴
If approved, your account will be available to use right away. You’ll get your debit card and PIN within 5 working days.⁴
The bank doesn’t say how long it takes if you apply online, but you can expect a similar timeframe.
If you’re using the Current Account Switch Service to switch over an account held elsewhere to Barclays, it should be complete within 7 working days.
