Disney Plus cancellation options and policies

If you cancel a Disney Plus subscription, access usually continues until the end of your current billing period (month or year), and your subscription won't renew1. To avoid being charged again, try to cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date, especially if you subscribed via Apple or Google Play.

In the UK, Disney Plus is usually billed monthly or annually, and you can either be billed directly by Disney or by a third-party partner. You can check who bills you by going to Account on disneyplus.com (web or mobile browser) or by looking under Your Plans & Billing, where you'll see your current plan and billing details, including whether you're billed by Disney or a partner2.

How to cancel your Disney Plus subscription directly

If your Account page shows that you're billed by Disney Plus, here's how you can cancel your subscription directly1:

  1. Open a web browser (computer, phone or tablet)
  2. Go to disneyplus.com and sign in
  3. Select your Profile icon (top right)
  4. Click Account
  5. Under Subscription or Your Plans & Billing, select your Disney+ subscription
  6. Click Cancel Subscription
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts, choose a reason if asked, and confirm cancellation

You should receive a confirmation email once your cancellation has gone through. Keep this for your records. If you're on your phone or tablet, the safest method is still to use a browser, not the Disney+ app:

  1. Open Safari/Chrome and go to disneyplus.com
  2. Sign in, tap your Profile > Account
  3. Tap your subscription under Subscription
  4. Choose Cancel Subscription, then confirm

How to cancel a Disney Plus subscription if billed via a third-party

If Disney Plus is part of your Apple ID, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or mobile/TV provider bill, you won't be able to cancel directly on disneyplus.com, so you must cancel where you originally subscribed2. In that case, make sure you're signed into the same account you used to subscribe. Here's what you need to do when cancelling your subscription through one of the main billing partners:

1. Apple (App Store / Apple TV app)

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings
  2. Tap your name at the top
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Select Disney+
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm3

2. Google Play (Android)

  1. Open the Google Play Store app
  2. Tap your profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions
  3. Choose Disney+
  4. Tap Cancel subscription, then follow the prompts4

3. Amazon (Prime Video Channels or Amazon billing)

If you added Disney+ as a Prime Video Channel or pay for it through your Amazon account:5

  1. Go to Prime Video > Account & Settings > Your subscriptions
  2. Find Disney+
  3. Select Unsubscribe or Cancel Channel and confirm

4. Roku

If you've subscribed through Roku, you'll need to contact and cancel your subscription through Disney+. While Roku processes the charge, Disney+ is still responsible for managing the subscription.6

5. UK mobile and broadband providers (O2, Vodafone, Virgin Media, etc.)

In the UK, Disney+ is often included as a free or discounted extra with mobile or broadband plans via O2 Extras, Vodafone VeryMe rewards, Club Lloyds lifestyle benefits, or Virgin Media bundles7.

If that's how you joined, you'll usually need to:

  1. Go into your network's app (e.g. My O2, My Vodafone, My EE, My Virgin Media)
  2. Look under Extras, Subscriptions or Entertainment
  3. Follow the steps to cancel or remove Disney+ from your plan
  4. Or contact customer service for that provider if you can't find the option

Alternatives to cancelling your Disney Plus subscription

If you still enjoy some of Disney Plus but don't want to pay full price every month, you may have options short of a full cancellation.

Can I pause my Disney Plus subscription instead of cancelling?

Disney+ has started rolling out a Pause Subscription feature in some regions, letting you temporarily stop billing without closing your account1. Availability can vary by country and billing method, and may change over time. If you see a Pause Subscription option when you open your subscription details, the steps are usually:

  1. Go to Profile > Account on disneyplus.com
  2. Select your Disney+ subscription
  3. Choose Pause Subscription (if offered)
  4. Pick how long you want to pause for
  5. Confirm

Switching your payment to another account or card

Instead of cancelling outright, you might simply want to move Disney+ to a card you use just for subscriptions or switch to a card that's cheaper for foreign-currency billing if you're paying in USD or EUR (for example, if you signed up while abroad). You can usually update your payment method under Account > Your Plans & Billing in Disney+, or through your billing partner's subscription page2.

This is where a Wise account and Wise card can help. With a Wise account, you can hold and convert money in 40+ currencies at the mid-market exchange rate, often with lower fees* than traditional banks. The Wise card lets you spend online or in apps like Disney+ in over 40+ currencies, without hidden foreign transaction mark-ups that you get with some UK banks.

So if your Disney+ billing is tied to a non-GBP currency (for example, you're paying for a US or EU Disney+ account), moving the payment to a Wise card can help you cut currency conversion costs while still keeping the subscription.

How to cancel a free trial on Disney Plus

Right now, Disney Plus does not offer a regular free trial in the UK8]. However, you might get Disney+ as a limited-time free offer through a bank, mobile network or other promotion7. If you're on one of these free periods, cancelling works the same way as cancelling a paid subscription. You just need to do it before the trial or promo converts into a paid plan.

Does Disney Plus offer refunds or credits for partially-used billing periods?

In general, no. The Disney+ Subscriber Agreement states that the service does not refund or credit for partially used billing periods, though Disney may choose to grant a refund in some individual cases9. If you subscribed through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or a mobile provider, you may need to contact them directly or use their refund request tools.

How to resubscribe to Disney Plus after cancelling

The good news is that cancelling Disney Plus doesn't usually delete your account, as it just stops future billing. That means you can come back fairly easily. To re-subscribe directly with Disney+1:

  1. Go to disneyplus.com and sign in with your old account
  2. On the Account page, choose a plan
  3. Enter or confirm your payment details
  4. Accept the terms and start your subscription again

If you previously subscribed via:

  • Apple or Google Play – go back to Subscriptions in your Apple ID or Google Play account and look for Disney+ under expired/cancelled subscriptions, then resubscribe3,4
  • Amazon or Roku – re-add Disney+ under Prime Video Channels / Your subscriptions or Roku subscriptions, and confirm payment5,6
  • A mobile or broadband provider – re-enable Disney+ as an Extra or add-on in your provider's app or account dashboard, if they still offer it

Using Wise to pay for subscriptions

If you decide to keep Disney Plus or rotate between several streaming services, a Wise account and Wise card can make paying for them easier and potentially cheaper. With Wise, you can hold multiple currencies in one place, convert at the mid-market rate with transparent fees*, and then use the Wise card online or in apps to pay for subscriptions that are billed in GBP, EUR, USD and many other currencies.

This can be especially useful if you signed up for Disney Plus while abroad or if your subscription is charged in a foreign currency, as you can avoid many of the usual foreign transaction mark-ups from traditional UK banks. If you share subscriptions with friends or family, you can also use Wise's Bill Split feature to divide payments so everyone pays back their share quickly and clearly, even if they're in another country or using another currency.

If you want a truly international account that works around the world, check out the Wise account. It's not a bank account but offers some similar features and your money is safeguarded.

You can open a Wise account online and start managing your money in 40+ currencies. When sending money internationally or converting currency, you’ll only pay a low, transparent fee* while also getting the mid-market exchange rate every time.

You can also get the Wise card to spend like a local from the moment you arrive. It works in 150+ countries and automatically converts your pounds to the local currency whenever you spend, only adding a tiny, upfront currency conversion fee* – or it’s free if you already have the currency in your Wise account.
