The Best European Cities For UK Students - Bologna

Wise

###Based on the factors you selected, the city perfect for you is… BOLOGNA

####Food

Bologna is the culinary capital of Italy - be prepared to drop that no carb diet. Tagliatelle, lasagne and tiny tortellini are among the famous gastronomic inventions to come out of the city, and Bologna has no shortage of places to try them, even on a student budget!

####Culture

Bologna was a thriving city in the medieval period and has retained many of its original features. The Due Torri, or Two Towers, in the heart of the city make a good alternative to the leaning tower of Pisa. Medieval palaces are dotted all across the city and the university, which was founded around 1088, is one of the oldest in the world.

The city also boasts gorgeous Roman Roadways and secret canals - perfect to explore one lazy afternoon. The city is famous for its radical left wing politics and that spirit is very much alive in the university quarter and beyond.

####Live Music

Bologna loves jazz. For an entire month in summer whole quarters of the city shut down to play host to lively jazz festivals, and in the winter months there is Cantina Bentivoglio, an osteria which hosts live jazz six nights a week.

A quick stroll along the cobbled streets in the Old Town will undoubtedly bring you to the projection of Lucio Dalla, a celebrated Bolognese jazz musician. Lucio Dalla is so loved, his figure is permanently projected onto the side of a building in the Old Town, and is considered one of the seven secrets of Bologna.

####Cost of living

The cost of living in Bologna, or the rest of the Emilia Romagna district for that matter, is very low. A cup of coffee, for example, will set you back €1,50. Nearly everything Bologna has to offer can be experienced on a shoestring, so it’s a perfect city for a student budget!
