10 cards to get your loved one this Valentine's Day

Anna Allgaier

Valentine’s Day supposedly comes from the Roman festival “Lupercalia” which celebrated the fertility of Spring. How lovely. The festival also included pairing off women with men via some sort of lottery. Not so lovely.

Anyway, V-Day is celebrated differently all over the world. It’s the most common wedding anniversary in the Philippines, Argentinians don’t have a day but an entire week of gift giving in July (I’m moving) and South Koreans have a day of love every month on the 14th (also moving).

You could argue that we’ve gotten the short end of the stick over here in the UK so I’ll practise my non-disappointed face for when I get my half dead supermarket flowers.

One practice that’s pretty consistent, no matter where you live, is giving your loved one - or one’s - a card.

So to help you make your other half go “awww” I’ve put together some cards for your consideration.

I ❤️ low fees

1. Show them you are both cultured and sort of desperate all in one

2. Get them a card that says "I love animals, and you"

3. Play hard to get, and prepare to be rejected

4. Cute

5. Remind them how lucky they are

6. Who said romance was dead?

7. You give them a card, they give you a restraining order

8. Just in case you're over it and need to say ciao for now

9. Show them you're serious. People love serious

10. Show them how you feel by making their finance life easier while subtly showing them that they gave you the ick that one time they hit up the Bureau de change
