How to open a foreign currency account in the US
Wondering how to open a foreign currency account in the US? Struggling to find information? Read on to find out what you need.
PNC®¹ offers its popular Virtual Wallet, which is a checking account service you can manage with your phone. But what about sending payments? How much can you transfer with PNC and what options are there available?
This guide will look at the PNC transfer limit for moving money between PNC accounts, and the PNC external transfer limit, for those times you need to send money to an account outside of PNC.
PNC lets you send domestic payments to others using Zelle®, as well as offering local and international wire transfers, and ACH payments².
The features of each service vary, as well as the fees you’ll pay. PNC transfer limits aren’t necessarily set as a one size fits all - instead, you need to review the information in your own online or mobile banking service to see the limits which apply to your specific account.
One other thing to note is that there may be a limit to the number of transfers you can make out of a PNC Growth, Savings or money market account. Once this limit is exceeded, fees apply. Again, specific account limits for internal PNC transfers are shown in the PNC app or online.
We’ll walk through the PNC transfer fees a little later - but because little limit information is publicly shared by PNC, you’ll need to log into your mobile or online banking to see the limits which apply for your specific transfer type. We’ll cover how to do that in a moment.
With PNC, customers can send money internationally using a wire. You can arrange this from online or mobile banking, with fees varying depending on the specifics of the transfer.
PNC does not publish the limits for wire transfers - although in many US banking institutions, this is the highest limit you’ll come across. To find your own specific PNC international transfer limit, log into your online banking service.
Compare your international payment options with PNC against the digital transfer services from Wise. Wise offers transfers in 40+ currencies with high limits and low fees*. We’ll look at Wise in more detail in a moment - you can also take a look at Wise transfer limits here.
Check your PNC limits online by opening online banking or logging into the PNC app. Once logged in, select Transfer from the menu, and follow the prompts to view the limits which apply to your account.
If you need more support you can also get in touch with PNC³:
- Call PNC on 1-888-PNC-BANK (762-2265)
- Contact PNC through social media
- Visit a PNC branch - appointments can be made online, in advance
- Open an in-app chat once logged into online or mobile banking
PNC does not offer any option to increase your transfer limit. As your limits are set according to your specific account type and use, if you need to increase your limit with PNC you’ll need to get in touch with your local branch or using one of the contact methods laid out above.
PNC online transfers are available through Zelle, wires or ACH. The limits which apply are available within your mobile or online banking service - navigate to the Transfers section from the menu to view everything you need.
Banks are certainly one option for sending money internationally, as are services like PayPal. But the problem with banks is they can often be slow, expensive and inconvenient. Luckily, there’s a better alternative out there.
