Different insurance policies all have their own rules and eligibility requirements. Some are quite specific to the policy, while others cover more general factors. Some requirements for the most popular Tokio Marine travel insurance policies include:
- You must be a Malaysian citizen, or Permanent Resident, or you must be legally in Malaysia with an Employment Pass or similar
- Individual cover is available on an annual basis for people from 18 to 75
- Individual domestic cover is available on a single trip basis for people from from 30 days old to 80 years
- Individual international cover is available on a single trip basis for people from from 30 days old to 85 years - from age 70 to 85 you’ll need to choose a specific senior cover plan

Here we’ve focused on the travel insurance available for international travel, to give an idea of the levels of cover available in different policy types. International travel insurance from Tokio Marine offers cover which can be broadly split into medical and emergency cover, and travel inconvenience or lifestyle cover. First we’ll look at the cover levels available in the 2 key Tokio Marine international travel insurance policies for emergency and medical purposes.

To make a Tokio Marine insurance claim you’ll need to follow these basic steps9:
As part of your claim you’ll need paperwork - some of which will be time sensitive, such as getting a police report if your wallet was stolen overseas. It’s a good plan to call Tokio Marine as soon as any incident occurs so you can check what documents will be needed to support your claim - there are 24 hour helplines available to get instant advice.
Once you’re back in Malaysia you’ll need to gather all the required paperwork. In all cases you must provide:
- Travel claim form
- Insurance certificate
- Proof of travel - such as airline tickets or similar
- E-payment form
Beyond this, the documents you have to hand over can vary a lot depending on the claim. For example, you’ll need a medical report and supporting invoices for a medical claim, or a police report if you have items stolen, for example.
