Moritz Boehringer is a physical phenom. At 6’4”, 220lbs and with blazing 4.40 speed, his dazzling pro day workout in Florida in March 2016 brought him to the attention of a host of NFL scouts. Despite having only ever played football in the European league, the Vikings made Moritz the first ever player to be drafted without playing a minute of college football in the US or Canada when they took him in the 6th round with the 180th pick of the 2016 draft.
Moritz started out his sporting career playing youth soccer for two local clubs in his home town Aalen, Germany. He was inspired to play American football after watching a highlight reel of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson when he was 17. So it was a happy twist of fate that it was the Vikings who selected him in the 6th round of the draft.
Before making the move to Minnesota, he cut his teeth playing for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns in the German Football League. He made 59 receptions for 1,232 yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 games played during the 2015 season.
Outside of football, Moritz is majoring in mechanical engineering at the University of Aalen in Germany, and expects to graduate in 2017. He is one of four children in his family. Father, Guenter, is an engineer, and mother, Katrin Fassmeyer, works in a museum.
