Do you need to send money to Africa? Meet Wise, the smart new way to make international payments.
Sending money internationally through a bank or broker like Western Union or PayPal can be more expensive than it appears. On top of any fees they charge, they use an exchange rate with a mark-up, which often ends up costing you more than what you thought you’d pay.
Wise is different. We’re on a mission to build faster, cheaper and fairer international payments. Our fees are completely transparent and they’re a fraction of what banks or brokers usually charge. We use the real exchange rate with no mark-up, so you know exactly how much you’re paying every time. It's international banking built the right way.
Wise lets you send money to 80 countries and hold balances in over 55 currencies. Here is a list of the African currencies you can currently send money to.
|🇧🇼 Botswanan pula||🇬🇭 Ghanaian cedi||🇰🇪 Kenyan shilling||🇲🇦 Moroccan dirham||🇳🇬 Nigerian naira|
|🇹🇿 Tanzanian shilling||🇺🇬 Ugandan shilling||🇿🇦 South African rand||🇿🇲 Zambian kwacha||West African franc|
How Wise works:
Our transfers are fast, fair and low cost – the fee varies by amount and currency, but it’s typically less than 1% of the total amount you're sending plus a small fixed fee. That’s a fraction of the price a bank or broker usually charges.
Here’s what else you need to know:
- You always get the real exchange rate when you convert currencies — with no costly mark-up.
- You can send money to 10 African currencies from wise.com, or from our iOS and Android apps.
- You can send money with Wise directly to other bank accounts or to the Wise borderless account, which lets you spend, send and receive money in multiple currencies.

Your Wise account also comes with lots of other international banking features. You can:
- Hold over 55 currencies in your account, and convert between them instantly.
- Get paid from abroad for free with local bank details for 6 major currencies.
- Spend internationally with our debit card when you shop online or travel.
10 million people already save using Wise. Here’s how we help them save money.
Meet Dominique, who moved abroad from the US a few years ago. By switching to Wise, he saved a lot of money and time. He explains how:
I initially used PayPal, but it was challenging and stressful and ended up costing me loads of money. Then a few people started recommending Wise to me, so I signed up and now I use it for all my international payments. I compared the prices to PayPal and Wise was so much cheaper, I pay pennies for Wise. I was so thankful. I even use it to pay the bills I still have in the United States, and I’ve also got the debit card, which is perfect for when I’m traveling.
