Look out for the mid-market exchange rate. This is the only fair rate out there – but many providers will add a markup to make money from your transaction.
Often, the intermediary bank used to make your wire transfer will convert your money into the correct currency for your recipient – and this conversion isn’t typically done at the mid-market rate.
ICICI Bank displays its exchange rates online, but this is indicative only. The rate can fluctuate depending on when you send your wire transfer, meaning you won’t know exactly how much your wire will cost until you come to send it.⁴
