How to calculate GST?
Since the introduction of GST, taxpayers can understand the taxes applied on goods and services at different stages of the production cycle. To calculate GST you’ll need to know which GST slab the product fits into.
The GST slabs are currently set at 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% for most goods and services.
To calculate IGST, just multiply the taxable amount by the appropriate GST rate. For an intra-state transaction, you’ll need to calculate CGST & SGST/UTGST. In this case, the sum of CGST and SGST/UTGST is equal to the total GST amount.
Here’s an example:
If a product is sold at Rs. 1,000 and the GST rate applicable is 18%, then the net price calculated will be = 1,000+ (1,000X(18/100)) = 1,000+180 = Rs. 1,180.

GST calculation formula
Here’s the formula you’ll need to calculate GST.
Add GST: GST amount = (Original cost x GST%)/100
Net price = original cost + GST amount
Remove GST: GST Amount = Original Cost – (Original Cost * (100 / (100 + GST% ) ) )
Net Price = Original Cost – GST Amount
Here’s an example to illustrate this, if your product is in the 18% GST slab:
Original cost of goods | Rs. 1 00 000 |
GST at 18% | Rs. 18, 000 |
Cost of goods sold | Rs. 1 18 000 |
