What is a Revolut Business card?

Revolut offers four different business account types in Ireland, to suit startups right through to enterprise level organizations¹. Each plan offers the option of getting a linked Revolut business card (or cards) for spending and withdrawals.

In Ireland, all Revolut Business cards are debit cards linked to your Revolut Business account, for multi-currency spending from your account balance. Credit services are not available.²

The exact cards you’re offered, as well as their features and fees, do depend on the account type you choose, but all customers can also choose a Revolut Business virtual card for secure digital spending.

What are the types of Revolut Business cards available in Ireland?

Revolut Business Ireland has 4 different account types - Basic, Grow, Scale and Enterprise. Each plan has its own features and fees, starting from the Basic plan which has a 10 EUR/month subscription fee, through to Scale at 90 EUR/month.

Enterprise plans are custom built and intended for larger business types, so the availability of cards can vary. For the other account plans, the type of card you can get depends on the plan selected. Here’s a summary:

Card type available¹Basic Revolut PlanGrow Revolut PlanScale Revolut Plan
Physical plastic cardUp to 3 per team member - fees may applyUp to 3 per team member - fees may applyUp to 3 per team member - fees may apply
Metal cardNot available1 complimentary2 complimentary
Virtual cardUp to 200 per team memberUp to 200 per team memberUp to 200 per team member

The Revolut plastic debit card is the standard issue card available on all plans. You can get up to 3 cards per team member - fees may apply for these cards.²

Standard card delivery can take up to 2 weeks, although you may be able to expedite this for an additional charge.

Revolut Metal cards are a premium payment card made from stainless steel. While it works in a similar way to a plastic card, it has a sleek look and is shipped by express delivery as a standard so you’ll get your hands on your card quicker. Grow and Scale plans offer one or more complimentary Metal cards, and you can also order additional cards for a fee.

Finally, all plans offer the option to instantly generate up to 200 virtual cards per team member. This is useful because virtual cards don’t have the same card number as your physical card, adding extra security when you spend online. You won’t be able to use a virtual card to make cash withdrawals, but they can be issued, deleted and replaced very easily, making it easy to control team spending and security.

Who can order a Revolut Business card in Ireland?

To order a Revolut Business card in Ireland you must first qualify for and open a Revolut Business account. The eligibility rules are as follows³:

  • Your company must be fully incorporated and active
  • Your company must be registered in Ireland or another eligible country
  • Your company must be an accepted entity type and work in a supported industry
  • Your current legal home address should be in the UK, Switzerland or EEA.

Freelancers in Ireland can not open a Revolut Business account, but you can instead add the Revolut Pro⁴ feature into your Revolut personal account. This offers some key features which are valuable to freelancers and people with a side hustle, like ways to take card payments and create invoices.

Revolut currency exchange rate for business cards

There’s no fee from Revolut when you spend a currency you hold in your account. If you don’t have the currency needed for a transaction you can either manually convert to the currency required, or allow the card to automatically convert when you pay.

Revolut plans all offer a set amount of currency conversion on weekdays which uses the Revolut exchange rate. If you exchange more than this amount, you pay a fair usage fee of 0.6% of the transaction value.¹¹

Weekend rates

If you make currency conversions on weekends, for example, there’s also a 1% fee on all account types if you convert out of market hours (between 5pm Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Friday and 6pm EST on Sunday).

Not all business cards approach currency exchange in this way. The Wise Business card for example uses the mid-market rate with no markup no matter the day of the week - more on that later.
