Bank of Hawaii international wire transfer: Fees, limits, and rates
Read on for everything you need to know about sending and receiving international wire transfers with Bank of Hawaii.
Rockland Trust Bank has been ranked #1 in Massachusetts on Forbes’ 2024 Best-In-State Banks list.¹ It offers many financial services, one of them being international wire transfers for when you need to send money abroad.
Sending a Rockland Trust international wire transfer is a convenient and reliable way to move money across borders, but fees and limits apply. In this article, we'll explain what they are.
We'll also discuss Wise, an easy and simple way to send an international payment with no exchange rate markups.
Yes, you can make international wire transfers with Rockland Trust. There are 3 main ways to initiate your transfer:²
- Rockland Trust online banking
- Mobile banking app
- In-person at your local branch
Rockland Trust emphasizes that sending wires in foreign currency (instead of US dollars) is the most cost-effective and efficient method for international transfers.²
This approach typically results in faster processing times and lower fees.
Rockland Trust doesn't publicly disclose wire transfer fees on their website. Generally, outgoing international wire transfer fees can range from around 5 USD to 75 USD.³
Sometimes, smaller banks use intermediary banks to facilitate international wires. These providers may charge extra fees, increasing the cost of your transfer.
When you need to convert one currency into another, banks typically apply an exchange rate markup. This means they give you a worse exchange rate than the mid-market rate.
Let's say the mid-market rate for USD to EUR is 1 USD = 0.85 EUR. A bank might give you an exchange rate of 1 USD = 0.82 EUR. On a transfer of 1,000 USD, this could mean about 30 EUR less for your recipient.
Most banks make money this way.
Send money to 160+ countries with the mid-market exchange rate and low, transparent fees with Wise. Set up a free Wise account online or in the Wise app on iOS and Android, to transfer money fast in 40+ currencies.
Over 50% of Wise payments arrive instantly* — and all Wise transfers are deposited directly into your recipient's bank account for convenience.

*Transaction speed claimed depends on funds availability, approval by Wise’s proprietary verification system and systems availability of our partners’ banking system, and may not be available for all transactions.

If you're using online banking, visit the wire transfer section and follow the prompts that appear on your screen to complete the transfer.
