But first, let’s take a look at internet banking with St George.

St George internet banking and app²

With its internet banking service, St George aims to make it simple and straightforward to manage everyday transactions. Once logged into your account, you can view recent statements, manage payments, move money between accounts and even set up mobile alerts for deposits or withdrawals.

The St George mobile banking app lets you do all of the same, but on the move and with a few extra smart features – we’ll look at these in a moment.

St George internet banking login³

To start using St George internet banking, you’ll first need to register. You can do this on the St George website, entering your date of birth, card/account number and phone number. You’ll then receive a Secure Code to your phone, which you can use to authenticate the process.

During registration, you’ll be asked to set a security number and password. These, along with a Customer Access Number (CAN) you’ll be given, are what you’ll use to login to internet banking.

You can also register for internet banking by downloading the St George app and following the steps. Once you’re all set up, you can login to the app quickly using your security number or even just your fingerprint⁴.

Services and features

All signed up for internet banking with St George? Here’s what you’ll be able to do once you login to your account⁵:

  • Check account balances and transaction history
  • Move money between your accounts
  • Instantly view/download statements from the last 30, 90 or 120 days
  • Send and receive payments in real-time
  • Set up recurring payments
  • Set up notifications and mobile alerts for deposits, withdrawals and changes to your account balance.

The St George app⁶ lets you do all of the above, but with a few limitations. For example, you might only be able to see your 10 most recent transactions on the Quick Balance view.

However, the app makes up for this with some bonus features, such as Expense Splitter and the option to track spending by sorting it into ‘Categories’.

Security

St George has a number of security measures in place to protect you while you manage your money online. These include⁷:

  • Anti-virus protection and firewalls – all to prevent unauthorised access to the network
  • SSL encryption to ensure information sent between you and the bank is secure
  • Adaptive, real-time authentication
  • Fraud detection platform – using features such as automatic timeout, lockout after too many incorrect password entries and Secure Code
  • Dedicated 24/7 Fraud Detection team.

The mobile banking app is also protected by St George Secure measures, but the bank also recommends taking additional security steps⁸. For example, protecting your phone with anti-virus software, setting up a password lock and installing all certified security updates.

Some alternatives to St George

Of course, St George isn’t the only bank out there offering online money management. In fact, you don’t even need to use a bank, as there are other types of financial solutions and services available that could suit you better.
