Ria money transfer review: US guide [2025]
Here’s all you really need to know about making international transfers with Ria. We've done the research for you, so kick back and read on.
First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) is one of the largest privately held banks in the US and the largest in Nebraska.¹
If you have an account with FNBO, you can send money to another country using SWIFT transfers.
We'll discuss FNBO international wire transfers in this article and introduce you to Wise — an easy and transparent way to send money abroad with low fees.
FNBO provides international wire transfer services through the SWIFT network, and you can send money to more than 175 countries.²
For personal accounts, you can also use FNBO online banking to:³
- Transfer funds to and from any savings and checking accounts on which you are an authorized owner
- Make payments to your line of credit, mortgage, installment loans and FNBO credit cards
- Send money to other FNBO customers (if you know their account number)
You may need to visit your local branch to initiate an international wire transfer.³
International wire transfers typically cost more than domestic ones, and you can expect an outgoing international wire transfer to cost anywhere from 5 to 75 USD.⁴
It's important to know that FNBO may sometimes use correspondent and intermediary banks to process international wire transfers. These banks charge their own fees - typically between 15 to 50 USD per transaction.⁵
It's a good idea to reach out to FNBO and ask them for a breakdown of all fees involved, including ones from intermediary banks. This will help you better understand the total cost of your transaction.
If you're sending money to another country, you might need to convert it from USD to a foreign currency. The exchange rate that FNBO applies to your transaction impacts the amount your recipient receives.
FNBO offers foreign exchange solutions in more than 90 currencies across over 175 countries.² But like most banks, FNBO likely doesn't offer the mid-market exchange rate for international transfers.
Banks start with the mid-market rate - the real exchange rate you see on Google. But then they add a percentage on top of this rate to profit from converting from one currency to another.
This increases the cost of your transfer, so it's important to be mindful of exchange rates and compare different providers.
Send money to 160+ countries with the mid-market exchange rate and low, transparent fees withWise. Set up a Wise account for free online or in the Wise app on iOS and Android, to transfer money fast in 40+ currencies.
Over 50% of Wise payments arrive instantly* — and all Wise transfers are deposited directly into your recipient's bank account for convenience.
No ongoing fees, no hidden charges and no hassle — just fast, transparent international transfers that can beat the banks.
*Transaction speed claimed depends on funds availability, approval by Wise’s proprietary verification system and systems availability of our partners’ banking system, and may not be available for all transactions.
For commercial accounts, you can do foreign exchange both online and through your global banking representative.²
For personal accounts, FNBO does not provide clear international wire transfer instructions. You may need to visit your local branch to initiate an FNBO wire transfer.
You typically need the following details to send an international wire:
- Your full name and address
- Your FNBO account number
- The recipient's full name and address
- The recipient's bank name and address
- The recipient's account number or IBAN (International Bank Account Number)
- The recipient bank's SWIFT code or BIC (Bank Identifier Code)
- The amount you want to send
- Currency for your transfer
- The purpose of your transfer (for international wire transfer regulations)
If you need the FNBO wire routing number, you can find it in your mobile app or at the bottom of your check.
Generally, international wire transfers take 1-5 business days to get to your recipient.⁶
Time zone differences, holidays, security checks and incomplete transfer information can all cause delays.

For commercial accounts, FNBO doesn't specify a limit. According to their website, you can send single or multiple payments to a multitude of countries.²
For personal accounts, checking accounts have no limit on the number of transfers you can make, but there may be a limit on the amount.³
Savings and money market accounts have restrictions on how many withdrawals or transfers you can make every month.³
Keep in mind that if you need to send a large amount of money abroad, you may need to provide additional documents to explain the purpose of your transfer. This applies both to commercial and personal accounts. |

If you have questions about wire transfers, call 800-642-0014. You can also visit your local FNBO branch or send an email using the Secure Message Center through your account.⁷
FNBO doesn't specify their international transaction fees, but they likely charge for these services. Most banks charge fees for international transactions, especially for outgoing wire transfers. These fees typically include a flat rate for the transfer itself, intermediary bank fees and currency exchange markups.
You can make online transfers using FNBO's business and commercial banking. If you have a personal account and need to send money internationally, you'll likely have to visit a branch in person.
The BIC/SWIFT code for international wire transfers with FNBO is FNBOUS44.
FNBO offers international wire transfers, but they're not transparent about fees, exchange rates and processes. This can make it difficult to send money abroad, especially if it's your first time trying to do the transfer.
Wise makes it easy to move money overseas with low fees and no exchange rate markups. You can initiate your transfer online, and over half of Wise transfers get there in under 20 seconds.*
*Transaction speed claimed depends on individual circumstances and may not be available for all transactions
