Hotlink data roaming is available for pre- and postpaid customers, either as a single country pass or a multi-country option which lets you continue access as you travel. This can be handy for cross border commuters and frequent travellers in particular. Hotlink roaming package options range from a single day to 30 days cover, and can be used in the broad Asia Pacific region and in Europe.

Differences between Hotlink international roaming, local SIM card, and travel eSIM

Hotlink has a huge range of data roaming services for all customer needs. However, adding data to your normal Malaysian phone isn’t the only option you have. Generally you can choose from the following:

Hotlink roaming package options

Hotlink postpaid 60 customers can choose a border roaming package for 15 MYR a month, which covers data in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. You may also get roaming included if you already subscribe to a Hotlink prepaid or postpaid 5G pass or package.

Hotlink postpaid roaming and Hotlink prepaid roaming can also choose the following range of data roam packages:

Hotlink roaming rate

There’s a very wide range of options for Hotlink roaming data packages, which all come with their own fees. Here’s an overview:

  • Single country pass - 1 day, ASEAN only: 10 MYR
  • Single country pass - 1 day, other countries: 38 MYR
  • Neighbouring countries roaming - single country 3 day pass (Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia): 12 MYR
  • Neighbouring countries roaming - single country 7 day pass (Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia): 20 MYR
  • Multi-country pass - 3 days, ASEAN only: 20 MYR

How to buy Hotlink data roaming

If you’re a prepaid customer, you’ll be able to access roaming without needing to take any specific steps, as long as you have enough balance in your account. If you’re looking to activate Hotlink postpaid roaming you’ll first need to take the following steps:

  • Dial *100# and select international roaming
  • select any country, then international roaming
  • select on

You can now buy a data pass package if you’d like to. You can do this in the Hotlink app - open_ myhotlink_, then select the country you’re travelling to, to see the roaming passes available and make your selection.

How to Hotlink roaming activation

When you buy a roaming data package, it’ll usually only activate once you connect to a preferred operator in the country you’re travelling to. Your phone may automatically connect - but if it doesn’t, you can also manage your settings to manually connect to one of the operators covered in your Hotlink data roaming package.

While this process can vary a bit depending on your phone type, you’ll usually just need to open settings on your phone, and look for the options for mobile data. Within this page you can tap network selection to turn off automatic selection and make a manual pick instead.
