Popular networks Celcom1 and Digi merged back at the end of 2022, forming Celcomdigi2, which now describes itself as Malaysia’s widest and fastest network. But what about outside of Malaysia? Being without your phone when you travel is a hassle - so if you’re a Celcom or Digi customer planning a trip away, you’ll need to look into the best Celcom/Digi international roaming plan3 for your specific trip.

CelcomDigi Data Roaming

You can get Celcom/Digi prepaid roaming, or choose a Celcom/Digi roaming plan as a postpaid customer, with packages lasting from 3 to 45 days.

Depending on whether you’re a Celcom or Digi customer, you can get a roaming pass from either the Celcom Life or MyDigi app, either for instant use, or in some cases for activation at a future date. Your exact options may depend on which telco you’re with, and whether you’re a pre- or postpaid customer. For example, at the time of writing, there’s a 50% price reduction for some Celcom customers who have a postpaid 5G 120 and above plan.

What is CelcomDigi, and how is it different from Celcom or Digi data roaming?

Following their merger, Celcom data roaming and Digi data roaming united to form a new product offering - CelcomDigi international roaming. You don’t have to choose between a Celcom/Digi data roaming package, just sign up as a Celcomdigi pre- or post paid customer, and you’ll get all you need to continue seamless data services when you travel.

Differences between CelcomDigi data roaming, local SIM card, and travel eSIM

  • Single country 3 day CelcomDigi roaming pass for 20+ countries
  • Multi-country 7 day pass for 22 countries in Asia
  • Multi-country 30 day pass for 50+ countries worldwide

It’s worth noting that the Single country 3 day pass option offers 4GB data if you’re going to Singapore, Indonesia or Thailand, but only 2GB if you’re heading to any of the other countries which are available with this option4.

Here’s a rundown of the costs for the various CelcomDigi roaming plan options - bear in mind that some customers may be eligible for special offers based on the postpaid plan they already hold.

  • Hajj roaming pass - 128 MYR
  • Single country 3 day CelcomDigi roaming Singapore, CelcomDigi roaming Indonesia or CelcomDigi roaming Thailand pass - 25 MYR
  • Single country 3 day CelcomDigi roaming pass for 20+ other countries - 25 MYR
  • Multi-country 7 day pass for Asia - 58 MYR
  • Multi-country 30 day worldwide pass - 98 MYR

If you’re a postpaid customer and use data roaming without buying a pass, you pay 39 MYR per day5.

How to buy CelcomDigi data roaming

The way you buy CelcomDigi prepaid roaming and CelcomDigi postpaid roaming is the same. However, it’s useful to know that prepaid customers can’t usually use their phone for data overseas at all unless they activate a pass. Postpaid customers may be able to use their phone abroad without adding a pass - but the charges can be very high. To avoid this, buy and activate your pass in advance, or turn off roaming on your phone to avoid accidental costs.

Here’s how to buy Celcom/Digi data roaming.

  1. Login to the Celcom Life or MyDigi app and tap ‘Buy Add-Ons’
  2. Click ‘Roaming’ and select the country you’re going to
  3. Choose your preferred roaming pass and confirm the date to activate it
  4. Click ‘Confirm’.

Once you’re away you’ll usually find that your Celcom/Digi roaming package is activated right away as the phone can automatically select the preferred operator’s network wherever you are. However, if you’re having problems connecting, it’s worth trying to connect manually to one of the preferred operators, which you can do by taking the following steps:

  1. Go to Settings on your phone
  2. Tap Mobile Data, then Network Selection
  3. Tap Switch off Automatic
  4. You can now manually select a provider from the CelcomDigi provider list
