PayPal and Wise are both peer-to-peer money transfer platforms. You can use your Wise or PayPal account to send digital transfers to friends and family – or easily pay for goods in-store.
Unfortunately, you may not be able to send a direct transfer from Wise to PayPal, but that doesn’t mean it’s not possible to transfer funds between the two platforms.¹
If you want to send money from Wise to PayPal, you may need to link both accounts to the same bank account or card.
You can transfer money from Wise to your bank account. Then, you can add money to your PayPal balance from the same account.
Let’s take a look at how to connect Wise to PayPal using a linked bank account.
Step 1. Log into your Wise account and choose the balance you want to use
Step 2. Click “Send” and enter the amount and currency you want to withdraw. You can send money in USD or a foreign currency
Step 3. Follow the on-screen prompts to enter your bank details. If you’ve withdrawn money to the account before, your details may already be saved
Step 4. Check that everything looks okay and click “Send money”
Step 5. Next, you’ll need to log into your PayPal account and go to your wallet
Step 6. Select “Transfer Money” and then select “Add money from your bank or debit card”
Step 7. Enter the transaction amount and choose either “in 3-5 days with your bank” or “in seconds with debit” to add to your balance²

It’s free to add US dollars to your PayPal balance from a bank account.³ However, you’ll pay a conversion fee to receive foreign currency transfers.³
PayPal typically charges a 3% currency conversion spread to add a currency other than USD to your balance.³ Spread is the discrepancy between how much the provider buys and sells their currencies for – and it can add a significant cost to your transaction.
Wise doesn’t charge a fee for withdrawing money to a bank account in USD – and you’ll pay the mid-market exchange rate for any foreign withdrawals.
This is the standard rate you might see online, with no added markups or hidden fees, so you’ll always know exactly how much your transfer will cost.
You can use both Wise and PayPal for global transfers. However, PayPal charges international fees and you may end up losing money to an expensive currency conversion process.
