Wise payments can be sent globally, with low fees and the mid-market exchange rate. But can you get paid via Wise without opening a Wise Account yourself?
The good news is that you can receive a Wise transfer to your normal bank account — which means there’s no need to open a Wise Account if you don’t want to.
This guide covers what information you’ll need to give to the person sending you money. Plus, we’ll also look at how to find your account receiving money information in Wise, in case you’d prefer your payment to be deposited to your Wise Account directly.
You do not need a Wise Account to receive money. In fact, all you need is bank details for the currency you want to receive a payment in, and your Wise transfer will be securely deposited to your normal bank account for convenience.
Wise payments can be sent to bank accounts in 80+ countries around the world.
If someone needs to send you money all you’ll need to do is give them your bank details — much the same as when you receive any other transfer.
To receive a payment via Wise you’ll need to give the sender some important details to process the transfer.
Exactly what’s needed may vary a little depending on where the sender is, and the value of the transfer. But usually you’ll be asked for:
- Your full name as shown on your bank account
- Your bank account number and routing information
- Your bank’s name and address
As an alternative, if you do happen to have a Wise Account already registered, your sender can process your payment using just the email associated with your Wise Account. That’s easy for them and means there’s no need to pass on sensitive banking information.
So, you don’t need a Wise Account to receive a Wise payment. However, you might find it’s convenient to have a free to open Wise Account if you get paid from abroad regularly.
With a Wise Account you can open a currency balance in any of up to 10 supported currencies, and get paid directly to Wise using your Wise Account details.
For US customers, this means you can receive money in US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand or Singapore dollars, British pounds, euros, Hungarian forint, Turkish lira or Romanian lei¹.
It’s free to receive a payment to Wise in USD if you’re sent an ACH, or there’s a low fee of 4.14 USD to receive a USD wire. All other supported currencies are free to receive to Wise².
Because Wise lets you hold and exchange 50+ currencies, and spend easily with a linked Wise card, you’ll be able to get paid from around the world, and hold or spend your balance easily whenever you want to.
That means you don’t need to have to switch back to USD right away if you receive a foreign currency payment. You can hold your funds in the currencies you prefer, spend later, or switch when the rates look good, using the mid-market exchange rate and Wise’s low fees from 0.41%.
