Read everything you need to know about using Amex Platinum for Clear and Global Entry, including how to apply for your travel benefits and why you should make the most of these programs.
Heading abroad? Don’t forget your Wise card! Spend money in 150+ countries and hold money in 40+ currencies, all with just one account.
There are many benefits of Amex Platinum, especially if you regularly travel across the world.
You can get a statement credit of 100 USD for Global Entry every 4 years with your card¹ and a credit of 189 USD for Clear Plus every calendar year.²
You can also get a statement credit of up to 85 USD for TSA PreCheck every 4.5 years, instead of Global Entry.¹ This Trusted Traveler Program is aimed at low-risk domestic travelers, letting you travel through security using a designated line.
Use your Amex Platinum card to get 200 USD back in credits every year to spend on prepaid hotel bookings and access airport lounges across the world.¹
The Amex Platinum card covers Global Entry and Clear fees. Instead of giving you a complimentary membership, however, you can simply use your card to pay for these programs and receive statement credit back.
You can get 100 USD every 4 years for Global Entry and 189 USD every calendar year for Clear, and this credit covers the full fee for both programs. Your Clear Plus membership will last 1 year and Global Entry lasts for 5 years, meaning you can access your membership and any renewals for free.
If you’re an Amex Platinum cardholder, you can use your credit for both Global Entry and Clear, with separate perks and benefits for both travel programs.
Amex Platinum is the only travel card that offers full reimbursement for Clear Plus and either TSA PreCheck or Global Entry, making this a great option for frequent flyers.³
You can access your Clear Plus statement credit every year. This automatically renews every calendar year. For Global Entry, you can access your credits every 4 years.
You can use your Amex Platinum card to get Global Entry for free — or at least for a reduced price. We’ve put together a step-by-step guide to using your Amex Platinum card for Global Entry.
Step 1. Log in to your Trusted Traveler Program account and complete the application form
Step 2. Pay your 100 USD application fee. Make sure to use your Amex Platinum card to pay or you’ll not receive your credit
Step 3. Once you’ve received conditional approval, schedule an interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center. Alternatively, you can complete the enrollment process on arrival after your next trip⁴
Step 4. You should receive your statement credit from Amex within 8 weeks
When you come to renew your Global Entry application, you can apply up to one year before it expires, but you can continue to use Global Entry for up to 24 months after the expiration date.
Once your renewal is approved, 5 years will be added to your current membership period.⁴

It’s easy to apply for Clear using your Amex Platinum card. It’s up to you how you use your statement credit — you could use it as a lump sum toward one membership or use it to cover multiple memberships.
For example, Delta® and United Airlines® both offer a discounted Clear Plus membership. If you’re eligible for these discounts, you could pay for your membership and also add a family member at a reduced price.²

Step 5. Complete your enrollment at a Clear location. You’ll be asked a few questions about your application, and you’ll also need to provide ID verification and give your biometric data⁵

Global Entry and Clear are useful travel programs for frequent flyers, and you can access statement credit for both memberships if you’re an Amex Platinum cardholder.
You can use Global Entry to speed through US Immigration and Customs. Simply scan your documents using a Global Entry kiosk instead of waiting in line.
This program also includes the benefits of TSA PreCheck, letting you go through airport security without removing your shoes, 3-1-1 liquids, belts, jackets, and electronics.
Clear uses biometric technology to scan your eyes and fingerprints, speeding up airport security at any participating airports, stadiums, and venues across the US.
Use both Global Entry and Clear in conjunction to speed up your airport journey.
If you want to apply for Global Entry or Clear with your American Express Platinum card, you may have a few questions.
You can use your Global Entry credit to buy a membership for your family members, as any charges will trigger your Amex Platinum credit.² However, it’s important to remember that everyone in your family needs their own membership — and children can’t use the Global Entry line with you.
For Clear, children under 18 years old can come through the machines at security if accompanied by a registered adult. Alternatively, you can use your Amex Platinum Clear credit to get a membership for your family members.
Any family members added to your account with Amex Platinum will get a Clear Plus membership of their own.²
Global Entry is available to US citizens, lawful permanent residents, and citizens from a few other countries, too.⁴ However, you must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify for Clear.²
You can use your Clear Plus or Global Entry credit for anyone. As long as you use your Amex card to apply for your membership and pay for it, you could use your credit toward another person’s membership, or even multiple memberships.⁶
American Express cardholders can access great travel perks with the Amex Platinum card, including a credit statement of 189 USD every calendar year for Clear and 100 USD every 4 years for Global Entry.
It’s easy to apply for your credit — and these programs are helpful travel tools for frequent flyers across the US.
