Wondering what the Scoot baggage allowances are? Find out more on the specifications and prices for both hand carry and check in baggage.
The Singapore Airlines baggage allowance can be pretty generous - particularly if you’re travelling business or above. However, it’s still important to look into the details, such as the Singapore Airlines cabin baggage size, before you head off to Changi, to avoid needing to repack, pay extra fees or hand over your belongings to security. This guide has you covered.

The amount of carry on and check in baggage you can take onto a Singapore Airlines flight will vary, based on the type of ticket you have, whether you hold any special SQ status, such as being a PPS club member, and your destination. All the details you need are included in your ticket - but getting familiar with the limits and restrictions before you travel can make the airport experience far smoother.
While different ticket types have different limits on the type of baggage allowed, all Singapore Airlines customers can take 2 distinct types of baggage with them:
- Singapore Airlines check in baggage - the larger bags or cases you’ll give to the ground staff at Changi and then get back on arrival in your destination
- Singapore Airlines hand carry - one or two small bags which are allowed into the plane’s cabin - used for valuables and flight essentials
The Singapore Airlines hand carry limit depends on the type of ticket you’ve bought1:
- Customers in Suites, First and Business class: Up to 2 items, which can weigh 7kg each, and which must have linear dimensions (length + height + width) of less than 115cm
- Customers in Economy and Premium Economy class: 1 item, up to 7kg, and which must have linear dimensions (length + height + width) of less than 115cm
If you exceed the Singapore Airlines carry-on baggage allowance, you’ll need to check in your excess. This means you can’t access it during the flight - and you may have to pay more if your total checked luggage now exceeds the limits within your ticket class.
As with most other airlines, the Singapore Airlines 100ml liquid policy applies for hand carry. This means that you can only take liquids, aerosols and gels of under 100ml in volume into the plane cabin. Any liquids you take must be put into a small, clear, resealable bag for security screening.
Some items can not be taken onto a plane at all, for safety reasons, while others can be taken onto the plane but must be placed in hold luggage - we’ll look at the Singapore Airlines check-in baggage restrictions in just a moment.
When it comes to the items you can have in your Singapore Airlines carry on bag, bear in mind that anything which could be seen or used as a weapon will not be allowed - including replica and toy guns, scissors and nail clippers. Other items not allowed into the cabin include some batteries and some electronics which can not be turned off2.
It’s a good plan to review all the rules before you pack to avoid the security staff taking your items from you when you reach the gate at Changi.

The Singapore Airlines check in baggage allowance you’ll get as part of your ticket price can vary a lot depending on the type of ticket you buy, and your status as a Singapore Airlines customer. Here’s an overview of the standard Singapore Airlines check-in baggage restrictions for different ticket types3:
Ticket type | Standard allowance | PPS Club allowance | KrisFlyer Elite Gold/ Star Alliance Gold allowance |
---|---|---|---|
Suites and first class | 50kg | 100kg | 70kg |
Business | 40kg | 80kg | 60kg |
Premium Economy | 35kg | 70kg | 55kg |
Economy - Flexi or Standard | 30kg | 60kg | 50kg |
Economy - Value or Lite | 25kg | 50kg | 45kg |
It’s also worth noting that while some tickets have a very generous limit, the Singapore Airlines baggage allowance also states that no individual case can weigh more than 32kg, for health and safety reasons. If you’re carrying more than this you’ll need to split your items out across multiple bags or cases.
For most flight routes, you can prepay for extra baggage in 5kg blocks to a maximum of 100kg4. This option is not usually available on routes to North America. The earlier you pre buy your baggage, the cheaper it will be. Discounts range from 10% to 25% off the airport price, depending on when you make arrangements. Costs vary, with luggage which has been pre purchased well in advance ranging from 6 USD per kilo to 42 USD per kilo depending on the duration and destination of the flight.
It’s important to check the Singapore Airlines check-in baggage restrictions for your specific route, as there are some rules which apply based on the destination you’re headed to. Singapore Airlines check-in baggage prohibited items which apply to all destinations include lighters, paint, pepper sprays and similar weapons.
