Scoot sells various different classes of tickets - commonly1:
- Fly
- FlyBag
- FlyBagEat
- ScootPlus
Each different ticket class has its own features, which might include variances in the Scoot hand carry baggage allowance, and the weight of check in cases you’re allowed. This guide walks through some of the basics, but it’s important to double check the exact terms of your ticket to make sure you understand what’s covered in your specific ticket.
We’ll walk through what’s allowed on a Scoot flight in more detail in a moment, but first a quick definition of the difference between Scoot check in baggage and Scoot hand carry:
- Scoot check in baggage - cases which will be handed over at the airport when you depart, and reclaimed when you land
- Scoot hand carry - items you can take into the plane’s cabin with you, including any valuables and your flight essentials
All Scoot ticket types include up to 2 items of cabin baggage which you can take onto the plane. Here’s the Scoot hand carry limit by ticket type2:
Ticket type | Fly | FlyBag | FlyBagEat | ScootPlus |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cabin baggage allowance | 2 pieces, to 10kg maximum weight | 2 pieces, to 10kg maximum weight | 2 pieces, to 10kg maximum weight | 2 pieces, to 15kg maximum weight |
Your bags can include:
- 1 larger bag or case, no bigger than 54cm x 38cm
- 1 small bag, no bigger than 40cm x 30cm
The combined weight of these bags must not exceed the total weight allowed by your ticket class.
If you arrive at Changi with more cabin baggage than you’re allowed - so either more individual items, or a total weight exceeding your limit - you’ll need to check your excess baggage. If your checked baggage then exceeds the weight allowance you’ve got as part of your ticket, there will be extra costs to pay. Adding in extra checked luggage at the airport is a very expensive option - worth avoiding if you possibly can.
When you’re packing your handy carry you’ll also need to bear in mind the Scoot 100ml liquid policy. As with most airlines, you can only bring liquids, aerosols and gels into a Scoot aeroplane cabin if they’re under 100ml in volume, and can be placed into a small resealable bag of no more than 1 litre capacity to pass through security3.
If you’re carrying larger items you’ll need to put them into your hold luggage, or surrender them as you pass through security at the gate.
For safety reasons there are some items you can’t take into a plane cabin - and some you won’t be allowed in the hold either. Mostly these are pretty predictable - so you can’t bring weapons, dangerous chemicals or toxic substances, for example. However, as there are some countries with specific baggage rules - such as the US and Australia - it’s worth getting familiar with the Scoot cabin baggage rules for your destination ahead of time.
You’ll be asked to confirm you’ve complied with the rules when you check in, so read what’s allowable before you pack, just to be sure.

Your Scoot ticket may include complimentary check in baggage allowance - if you want to carry more than is allowed as part of your ticket you’ll need to pay extra fees. Here’s a breakdown of the Scoot check in baggage allowance by ticket class:
Ticket type | Fly | FlyBag | FlyBagEat | ScootPlus |
---|---|---|---|---|
Check in baggage allowance | None | 20kg | 20kg | 30kg |
So what about the Scoot check in baggage size? Items of check in baggage must have linear dimensions (length + height + width) of less than 158cm, and as long as you stick within your allocated or purchased weight restriction, you can bring on up to 15 separate items.
If you want to carry more than your ticket allows you’ll need to pay a fee - we’ll look at that next. However, it’s helpful to know that even if you purchase more baggage, each individual case or bag can only weigh up to a maximum of 32kg. This is so that ground staff don’t injure themselves while lifting your luggage in transit.
You can buy extra baggage allowance when you book your flight with Scoot, after ticketing, or at the check in. The fees for this service vary quite a lot. You’ll be able to pre-book from 20kg to 40kg of additional luggage in advance of your flight, with fees based on the weight of your additional case and the length of your journey. If you add baggage after buying your ticket, there’s an extra fee to pay on top of the standard excess charges4.
The most expensive and risky option is to wait until you get to Changi to buy your excess baggage. In this case the costs are significantly higher, and you may be limited in terms of how much additional baggage space is available.
Double check the Scoot check in baggage rules for your specific destination before you fly. General prohibited items include poisons, gases, flammable items, toxic items, and animals. However, as there are also some regional specific differences depending on your destination, it’s worth spending a moment reading over the rules before you hop in a Grab to the airport.
