Maybank Credit Card Rewards: Best Cards and How to Maximise Them (2026)

Joel Conceicao

Pick the right Maybank credit card and your monthly spending could eventually fund a business class seat. Pick the wrong one, and you'll end up with little more than just a few ringgit back at the end of the month. Maybank runs one of the most extensive card portfolios in Malaysia – and the range is wide.

This guide covers the Maybank rewards ecosystem for 2026. We break down how point multipliers work across income tiers, compare direct cashback alternatives, and walk you through the most efficient ways to get the most from your redemptions. We'll also introduce the Wise account, a handy companion to make your money go further with low, transparent fees.

Maybank Rewards Explained: TreatsPoints vs. Cashback

Maybank's credit card rewards mostly sit on two camps: accumulating TreatsPoints or earning direct cashback. Each card belongs to either camp – you can't earn both on a single transaction.

TreatsPoints are the bank's main reward currency, earned through a multiplier (for example, 5x points per RM1 spent). To work out what a multiplier is actually worth, the conversion rate is the number you need to know. In 2026, the standard rate for Maybank's premium travel cards (such as the Visa Infinite and Amex Reserve) is 12,500 TreatsPoints to 1,000 airline miles (Enrich, KrisFlyer, or Asia Miles)¹. For entry-level and mid-tier cards, that rate drops to 20,000 points per 1,000 miles.

There's also expiry dates to keep in mind. Standard TreatsPoints are valid for a rolling 36-month window from the month they are earned². Plus, there are no extension periods given to expired TreatsPoints.

One more thing worth knowing: not all spending earns points or cashback. Transactions via JomPAY, FPX, e-wallet top-ups, and government agencies are excluded across all Maybank cards³.

Premium Travel and Luxury: Top-Tier Maybank Cards

If you travel frequently and want to make every ringgit work harder, Maybank's premium tier is built around one goal: making travel smoother and stacking air miles fast.

Maybank World Elite Mastercard Benefits

The Maybank World Elite Mastercard is built for frequent, high-spending travellers who want more than just points.

The earn rates are generous. You'll rack up 25x TreatsPoints for every RM5 spent overseas and 10x TreatsPoints for every RM5 spent locally. Spending on utilities, petrol, education, EzyPay, and insurance also earn 1x TreatsPoints.

Beyond points, one of the card's most distinctive perks is the Buy 1 Get 1 Business Class ticket with Malaysia Airlines to selected APAC cities – Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei, Perth, or Melbourne. To qualify, you'll need to hit a minimum annual spend of RM150,000 (effective 1 January 2026).

For lounge access, the card covers 16 complimentary visits per year across Plaza Premium First, Plaza Premium Lounge, Travel Club Lounge, and Sky Lounge (Subang Airport). The quota is shared between you and a travel companion. The card also comes with up to RM2,000,000 in travel insurance coverage when you charge your flight ticket to the card, plus 3GB of global data roaming with Flexiroam – valid for 10 days in over 200 countries, once per year.

Maybank 2 Cards Premier Benefits

The Maybank 2 Cards Premier comes as a two-card bundle: an American Express Reserve paired with a Visa Infinite, both sharing a single credit limit and statement.

The Amex Reserve is where the real earning happens. Since 1 June 2026, it earns 10x TreatsPoints per RM1 on overseas spend, 5x on local dining, and up to 3x on everything else. In practice, you'll want to lead with the Amex Reserve for meals out and overseas purchases, and only switch to the Visa Infinite if a merchant doesn't take American Express.

The Visa Infinite pulls its weight too – giving you 5 complimentary visits per year to Plaza Premium Lounge and Sky Lounge (Subang Airport), plus up to RM2,000,000 in travel insurance when you charge your flight to the card.

    Maybank 2 Cards (Gold/Platinum) Benefits

Both the Gold and Platinum bundles work the same way: each pairs a Maybank American Express card with a Maybank Mastercard or Visa – free for life, under a single statement. The difference is the income threshold. The Gold bundle requires a minimum annual income of RM30,000, while the Platinum steps up to RM60,000.

In both cases, the American Express card is where the rewards are. It earns 5x TreatsPoints per RM1 on weekdays and flips to 5% cashback on weekends, capped at RM50 per month. Keep your weekend spending consistent and that cap works out to RM600 in annual savings. The Platinum bundle adds one extra perk: travel insurance coverage of up to RM700,000 when you charge your travel tickets in full to the card.

What About Overseas Spending? Minimising Hidden Exchange Fees

Those generous overseas point multipliers can look attractive, but they're only part of the story. The other factor worth paying attention to is the foreign transaction fee – which can quietly reduce the value of the rewards you're earning.

The exact markup depends on which card you're using. For Maybank Mastercard and Visa cards, overseas transactions carry a combined markup of 2.25% – made up of a 1.25% fee imposed by Visa or Mastercard International, plus a 1% fee from Maybank¹¹. For Maybank American Express cards, a conversion factor of 2.5% applies to the converted amount. On larger travel expenses, those charges can add up surprisingly quickly.

One practical approach is to split your spending. Use your premium Maybank card for flights and hotel bookings in Ringgit to help meet minimum spend requirements and maximise your points. Then, once you're abroad, consider switching to a dedicated multi-currency card for everyday purchases.

The Wise card is one option worth considering. It lets you spend in 40+ currencies at the mid-market exchange rate – the same rate you'd typically see on Google – with low, transparent fees and no traditional bank markups.
