Your complete guide to a Brazil visa for Indians
Brazil is one of the largest countries in South America and is the land of samba, beach, and football. With vibrant cities like Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, Brazil can be a great place to visit. Do Indians need a visa for Brazil?
Yes. Indian citizens need a visa to visit Brazil. A typical visitor visa allows for a stay of up to 90 days in Brazil. And while a yellow fever certificate is not essential while entering the country, you will require a vaccination on returning to India.¹
Types of Brazilian visas
Different types of Brazilian visas are available for Indians including visitor, transit, study, pre-approved work, family reunion, and more. Indian passport holders must apply for their visa through the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi or the Consulate in Mumbai. Here is a quick guide to common visas to Brazil.²
Brazil tourist visa for Indians
Indian citizens need a tourist visa, called a Visitor Visa (VIVIS), to enter Brazil for the following reasons:
- Tourism.
- Family visits.
- Participation in cultural or recreational activities.
- In media or film coverage.
- Transit through Brazilian airports en route to other countries.
A Brazilian visitor visa is also necessary for conferences in the country, to perform voluntary work, research, and academic extension activities, and participate in business meetings and fairs.³
You are not allowed to work or earn money on a visitor visa and can only stay 90 days. For longer periods of study, work, or research, you will have to apply for the appropriate visa.
Brazil work visa for Indians
Indians need a work visa to enter Brazil and have an established employment contract. The Brazil work visa, also known as the Pre-approved Work Visa (VITEM V), is available for work activities that are pre-approved by the Ministry of Justice.⁴
The Ministry of Justice authorization of a work visa is valid for six months. The visa is valid for one year, so you must use the visa within one year from the issue date. The Brazil Pre-approved Work Visa is granted up to a maximum of two years, depending on the type of work.
Brazil offers a Digital Nomad Visa for employed remote workers, but Indian passport holders are not currently eligible.
Is there a visa-on-arrival for Indians to Brazil?
No. Brazil does not offer a Visa-On-Arrival facility for Indian citizens. Indian passport holders must apply for a visa before leaving for Brazil.
How much does a visa to Brazil cost?
Indian visa applicants for Brazil must pay the visa fees to the Brazilian Embassy by non-refundable bank transfer or deposit into the Embassy’s Bank account.⁶

Brazil visa requirements for Indian citizens
Indian passport holders must submit the following documents when applying for their Brazil visitor visa. For the online application, all the documents must be uploaded to the online form and emailed as a single PDF document. All originals must be submitted to the Embassy or Consulate too.⁷
- Hold a valid passport with a validity period of at least six months and two blank pages.
- The online application form (RER).
- Receipt of paying the visa fee.
- Passport-style photograph (not older than six months) in line with ICAO requirements.
- Have an existing itinerary and travel plans organized with return flights, proof of accommodation, or hotel reservations in Brazil.
- Proof of financial ability by submitting ITR, payslips, or bank statements for the past three months.
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate.
- A personal cover letter about you and your intended trip to Brazil.
- Invitation letter, if applicable.
Work visa applications are generated by the company or employer in Brazil and require government approval.
How to apply for a Brazil visa
There are three stages to the application process for a visitor visa: 1) completing the online application 2) emailing your application details and 3) submitting documents to the embassy or consulate.
Here are the details:
- Head to the Embassy of Brazil website.
- Gather the documents required (see the next section).
- Identify the type of visa you are looking for.
- Complete the application form.
- Upload your photo.
- Click on “Complete Application”
- Receive your application receipt and RER number.
- Print your receipt.
- Sign the receipt.
- Send the signed receipt along with a passport picture by email to consular.newdelhi@itamaraty.gov.br with the subject line: “(Type of Visa) - RER Number - Applicant Name - mobile number”.
If you have successfully submitted your receipt and documents, the Embassy or Consulate will reach out to you for payment information and how to drop off your original documents in person.
An application is not considered complete until it has been submitted to the Embassy or Consulate. You will only get a decision on your application after submitting the original documents and showing evidence that you paid the fee.
How long is a Brazil tourist visa valid for Indian citizens?
The Brazil tourist visa for Indian citizens is valid for 90 days. Extensions are allowed for an additional 90 days, so up to 180 days total in any 12-month period. However, you must be in Brazil when filing for an extension. You will need to apply for the extension at the nearest office of the Brazilian Federal Police.⁸
