The RBC Right Pay Visa Prepaid card is a reloadable card that lets you spend your social assistance payments in person and online.¹

You can use your card to:

  • spend across the world
  • pay anywhere that accepts Visa® payments
  • make ATM cash withdrawals¹

Using your RBC Right Pay card is easy. Your social assistance provider loads funds directly to your card, so you can spend or withdraw them whenever you want. .²

Unlike a credit card, you can only spend money you have. You can also track your balance and transaction history and receive alerts when your social assistance payments are added to your card.²

You can use your RBC Right Pay Visa anywhere that accepts Visa payments. This includes online and in-person retailers.  You can also pay bills, such as your cell phone or household utilities.

However, you can’t use your RBC Prepaid card at unattended gas pumps or parking terminals – and your card may be blocked at certain restricted websites.³

How to get and set up the RBC Right Pay Visa prepaid card

To qualify for your RBC Right Pay Visa Prepaid card, you must be eligible for government payments from the Province of Ontario or an Ontario Works® delivery agent.³

You also need to activate and set up your card before making payments online or in person. Log into your online RBC Right Pay account and enter your card number to get started.⁴

Next, you need to choose a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). Make sure to keep your PIN secure, as you’ll need it to access your money.²

It’s easy to make international transfers and payments with your RBC Right Pay Visa card. Let’s take a look at everything you need to know.

How to make purchases with the RBC Right Pay Visa card

You’ll need to check your RBC Right Pay card balance before making a purchase to ensure you have enough money in your account.

The retailer will ask if you want to make a “debit” or “credit” payment. Select “credit” and enter your PIN at the card terminal to complete your purchase.²

When paying for services like hotel reservations, it’s important to remember that the retailer may pre-authorize your card for the bill, plus a 20% estimated tip. The retailer may decline your transaction if you don’t have the full amount in your account.³

How to return purchases made with the RBC Right Pay Visa card

You can also return purchases made with your RBC Right Pay card. Speak to the retailer about their return policy, and you should receive your refund within 3 business days.²

For foreign refunds, the amount refunded may differ from the original due to changes in the exchange rate. This means, you may not get a refund of any RBC conversion fees. ³

How to pay your bills with the RBC Right Pay Visa card

You can use your RBC Right Pay card to pay your bills as long as your provider accepts Visa payments.

Simply transfer money directly to your bill provider online, in person, or by phone. .²

How to withdraw cash with the RBC Right Pay Visa card

You can use your RBC Right Pay card to withdraw cash from an ATM. Enter your PIN at the machine and select “withdrawal” from “chequing”.²

RBC ATM terminals offer you 4 free withdrawals; however, you pay 2 CAD per withdrawal after that. Non-RBC ATMs also charge you 2 CAD per withdrawal. .³

What are the limits on the RBC Right Pay card?

You can only withdraw 500 CAD per ATM withdrawal with your RBC Right Pay card, and you’re limited to 2000 CAD per calendar day.

You can spend a maximum of 4000 CAD per calendar day on purchases with your Right Pay Visa card.³

How to replace a lost RBC Right Pay card

If you lose your RBC Right Pay card, or you’re worried it’s been stolen, you can order a replacement card for free.

Contact Royal Bank® immediately to block your card and request your RBC Right Pay replacement card.

Once you’ve activated your card, you can get your previous account balance transferred to your new card.³
