FCNR deposits for US-based NRIs: What to know
RBI announces new FCNR rules for NRI deposits. Read our explainer to learn what changed, who may benefit, and the key rates that different banks offer.
If you’re changing bank accounts, switching to a different peer-to-peer payment app, or trying to fix a registration error to start fresh, you might be considering a Zelle® delete account request.
Removing your data helps secure your financial details and prevent contacts from accidentally sending money to an inactive profile.
As Zelle is integrated directly into hundreds of banking apps, the process for canceling your service looks different depending on how you signed up.³
This guide walks you through exactly how to close your Zelle profile, disconnect your bank details, and clear out your information. Let’s dive in!
We'll also introduce the Wise account, which allows you to send, spend, and receive your money across the globe in over 40 currencies – all at the fair mid-market rate.

How you close your account depends entirely on whether you use Zelle through your regular bank’s mobile app or via the standalone Zelle app.³
If you use Zelle within your banking app, you can’t delete the feature independently, as it’s built into your checking account. However, you can unenroll your phone number or email address to deactivate it.³
If your bank or credit union doesn’t partner with Zelle, you likely registered your debit card directly via the standalone Zelle app. To close this type of account, you must contact Zelle support directly⁴:
Zelle doesn’t support credit cards for sending or receiving money; it only links directly to checking accounts, savings accounts, or debit cards.
If you want to stop Zelle from accessing your banking details before you shut down your profile, you need to clear your payment details.
Before you officially submit a closure request or unenroll your phone number, taking care of a few quick logistical items will prevent missing funds or stuck transfers. Keep this checklist in mind:
You can’t reactivate a deleted Zelle profile, but you can always register again from scratch.³ Once a phone number or email is unenrolled from the Zelle network, it becomes completely free and unlinked.³
If you want to use the service again in the future, you can simply open your banking app or the Zelle app and complete the enrollment process using that same phone number or email address.⁵
If someone tries to send you money and still sees your name linked to Zelle, your contact details are likely not completely unregistered. A phone number or email address can only be linked to one Zelle account at a time. [1]
Executing a Zelle delete account request depends entirely on how you access the platform. If you use the standalone Zelle app, you need to call the provider’s customer support line at 1-844-824-6451 to delete your profile.
If you use Zelle within your online banking platform, you simply need to go into your profile settings and unenroll your email address and US mobile number.
| Opening a Wise account is another option you can benefit from — it’s quick and simple to do it online with just a few clicks. |
