Most credit unions and banks charge wire transfer fees. VyStar Credit Union is no exception.
Transfer type | Fee¹ |
---|---|
Incoming wire transfer | Free for VyStar members |
Outgoing wire transfer | 20 USD |
Currently, incoming wire transfers are free for VyStar members. That includes both domestic and international wire transfers. However, the institution charges a 20 USD wire transfer fee for outgoing wires.¹
Outgoing wire transfer fees can range from 0 to 50 USD, making VyStar’s charges on the lower end.² However, if you make frequent wire transfers, those fees can eat away at your funds.
When considering international wire transfer fees, it’s important to consider exchange rates as well. When sending money overseas, your currency must be converted into the other country’s currency. Sounds simple, right? It can be if your bank offers the mid-market exchange rate.
Unfortunately, most institutions use a set day rate and then add a hidden fee on top.
Since rates fluctuate from day to day, it’s impossible to find out the current VyStar exchange rate until the day of your transfer. While you’ll have to deal with that rate no matter how you send your international transfer, the uncertainty arises due to the fee that gets tacked onto the transaction.
These fees eat away at your money and reduce the amount the other person actually receives. Luckily, there are different ways of sending money overseas that involve transparent fees and lower charges, like Wise.

Setting up a wire transfer with VyStar is simple if you’re already a credit union member. Here’s what you’ll need to do³:
Gather the necessary information: Provide the recipient’s name, address, bank name and address, account number, and SWIFT code
Complete the wire transfer form: Fill out VyStar’s wire transfer form
Submit the form: Turn in the document to a VyStar branch representative
Verify and confirm: The rep will carefully review the form for accuracy with you
It’s important to make sure every detail is correct. Sorting out wire transfer issues can be tedious. If you send money to the wrong person, you may not be able to get it back, especially if it was an international transfer.
Once you’ve initiated the transfer, VyStar should provide you with a tracking number.
You’ll need several pieces of information to make a wire transfer, including the following:
- VyStar Credit Union routing number
- Recipient’s full name
- Recipient’s address
- Recipient’s bank name
- Recipient’s bank address
- Account number
- Routing number
💡 If you’re setting up an international wire transfer, you’ll also need a SWIFT code. This unique identifier helps the institutions involved in the transaction identify one another. These codes typically consist of 8 or 11 characters.
Domestic wire transfers usually take 24 hours. International wire transfers may take between 1 and 5 business days.
If you don’t initiate the transfer before your bank’s cutoff time, that day won’t count toward the 1–5-day window.

Technically speaking, you can send as much money as you want via a wire transfer. However, VyStar may impose limits on the amount that can be transferred via wire. These limits could vary based on your account balance and the type of account you have.
You’ll need to reach out to VyStar to determine what your wire transfer limit is, if any.
VyStar and other financial institutions are also subject to wire transfer regulations. If you send an international wire transfer over 10,000 USD, VyStar is required to report the transaction to the IRS.
