How to get Canadian dollars in the US

Although you can use your debit or credit card abroad, your bank may charge foreign transaction fees – and you might want to use cash for payments like taxi rides or hotel tips.
We take a look at how to order euros from US Bank, including everything you need to know about exchange rate costs, fees, and when you can pick up your cash.
You can order euros online or in person from US Bank, but you’ll need a US Bank deposit account to place your order.¹
You’ll also need to order a minimum of 20 USD and foreign coins aren’t accepted for exchange.¹
Once you’ve ordered your euros, you’ll need to pick up your cash in person from your local US Bank branch. An associate will give you a call when your order is ready to collect.¹
You’ll also need to bring a valid form of identification to collect your order, such as your passport or driver’s license. For security reasons, only the person who placed the order can collect it.²
If you place your order by 2pm local time, you can collect your euros on the next business day. However, you’ll need to wait 2 business days if you place your order after 2pm.²
You can order euros from US Bank through your online banking account or via the US Bank mobile app.
Let’s take a look at how to place your euro order online.
Step 1. Log into your online banking account and choose which account you’d like to use for your exchange
Step 2. Select “Account Services” and then “Foreign Currency”
Step 3. Select “Euros” from the list of currencies. Enter the US dollar or euro amount you need
Step 4. Select “Add to order” and then “Continue” to view an estimated total for your currency exchange
Step 5. Select the account you want to use to purchase your euros and which branch you want to pick up your order from. You’ll also need to provide your phone number
Step 6. Review your exchange and select “Place order” to submit
If you’d prefer to use the US Bank mobile app, simply select “Main menu” and then “Help & services” to start your exchange. You can then order euros using the same steps as your online banking order.
You’ll receive an email notification to confirm your order – and you’ll get a call when your cash is ready to collect.¹
You can also order your euros in person at your local US Bank branch. Speak to the teller for more information about how much you need for your trip and how much your exchange will cost.²
It’s free to use online banking at US Bank.³ However, the provider doesn’t display their exchange rates or fees for foreign currency conversions. You’ll need to wait until you place your order to see how much it’ll cost.
You may need to pay for certain features or processes via mobile banking – and you’re responsible for any third-party fees related to your US Bank account.³
If you need your euros immediately, you can pay an additional fee to speed up your euro exchange.²
