Yadana Chaw

Sending good wishes and prosperity has never been easier. While the traditional exchange of physical red packets remains a beautiful heritage, the way we share these blessings is evolving.

Digital ang baos have become increasingly popular, with the DBS eGift being one of the top options in Singapore. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about using the DBS eGift to share joy locally. We'll also introduce the Wise account, a handy companion to make your money go further with low, transparent fees.

What’s a DBS eGift?

A DBS eGift is a digital version of the traditional red packet integrated into the DBS digibank and DBS PayLah! apps. Unlike a standard bank transfer, an eGift is designed to be a celebratory experience. When you send one, the recipient receives a festive notification. Recipients are greeted with a digital animation and your personalised message, preserving the joy of receiving a physical ang bao.

The DBS eGift feature is specifically designed for domestic transfers within Singapore. To send your blessings to family and friends abroad, consider gifting through Wise.

How to Send an Angbao with DBS eGift?

Sending a digital blessing can be done in just a few taps. You can choose to use either the DBS digibank app or the DBS PayLah! app:

  • Open your DBS digibank or PayLah! app.
  • Tap “Pay” or “eGift”.
  • Choose a recipient from your contact list or enter a mobile number.
  • Key in your gift amount. You can also select a festive theme and write a personalised greeting.
  • Double-check the details, then slide or tap to confirm.

Your eGift will then be credited to the recipient immediately.

Who can you send a DBS eGift to?

The DBS eGift is powered by Singapore's PayNow network, so here is who you can send your digital hongbao to:

  • PayNow Registered Users: You can send an eGift to anyone in Singapore who has linked their mobile number or NRIC/FIN to a bank account (including OCBC, UOB, and other major banks).
  • DBS PayLah! Users: You can send directly to any contact who has a PayLah! wallet.
  • QR Ang Baos: If you still prefer a physical touch, you can use DBS PayLah! to scan the QR code to load a cash value of up to SGD 999. Place the QR slip in a red packet (or gift it as it is!) and give it to family and friends. The recipient then scans the QR code to receive the amount instantly in his or her DBS PayLah! mobile wallet.

The DBS eGift is restricted to those with a Singapore-linked bank account or mobile number. If you are looking to send a digital blessing to loved ones across the border, consider sending with Wise
