Dating back over 3000 years, Chinese currency has its roots in both Ancient and Imperial China. In 1914, the Republic of China established the Silver Dollar as its official currency, complemented by the introduction of copper, fen, and nickel coins during the 1930s. However, silver's increased value led to a shift away from the silver standard. Consequently, in 1935, a new currency named Fǎbì was introduced.

In 1948, the Gold Yuan replaced the Fǎbì, marking a conversion rate of 1 Gold Yuan to 3 million Yuan Fǎbì. Simultaneously, the Yuan Renminbi (commonly referred to as RMB) was introduced to stabilise the Communist-controlled regions of mainland China. Arrival of the Gold Yuan and Chinese Yuan Renminbi

During the period of a controlled economy, the Chinese Yuan Renminbi was pegged to unrealistic exchange values, leading to stringent currency regulations. As China's economy began opening up in 1978, the Yuan Renminbi was primarily utilised domestically, prompting foreigners to resort to exchange certificates, which consequently fostered a thriving black market. From 1997 to 2005, the Chinese government fixed the exchange rate of the Yuan Renminbi to the US Dollar at an approximate rate of 8.3 CNY to 1 USD. In 2005, a more flexible exchange rate mechanism was introduced, readjusting the RMB to 8.1 Renminbi per US dollar. China initiated a pilot program in 2009, permitting certain businesses in regions like Guangdong and Shanghai to conduct trade with counterparts in Hong Kong, Macau, and select nations. This program has expanded nationwide and internationally. Furthermore, China has established direct currency trade agreements with Australia, Japan, Thailand, Russia, and Vietnam, bypassing the need to convert to the US Dollar. Presently, the Renminbi's value operates under a managed float, determined by a basket of foreign currencies.

The official currency of Indonesia, known as the rupiah (symbol: Rp; currency code: IDR), is managed and issued by Bank Indonesia. Its name originates from the Sanskrit term for silver, "rupyakam" (रूप्यकम्). Additionally, Indonesians sometimes colloquially refer to the rupiah in coins as "perak", which translates to "silver" in Indonesian. The rupiah is subdivided into 100 cents (Indonesian: sen), yet due to significant inflation, coins and banknotes denominated in cents have become obsolete.Introduced in 1946 by Indonesian nationalists striving for independence, this currency replaced a version of the Netherlands Indies gulden, which was put into circulation during the Japanese occupation in World War II. During its initial stages, the rupiah was utilised alongside other currencies, including a fresh iteration of the gulden introduced by the Dutch. In 2015, the government presented a bill regarding the redenomination of the rupiah to the House of Representatives, but it hasn't been reviewed thus far. Reiterating this stance in 2017, Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo mentioned that if the redenomination process commenced immediately, it could feasibly conclude by 2024 or 2025.

This rate was formally established into Qatari law through Royal Decree No.34 of 2001, signed by Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, on 9 July 2001.This decree outlines specific articles: Article (1) specifies the Qatari riyal exchange rate against the US dollar at QR 3.64 and sets upper and lower limits for the Qatar Central Bank's purchase and sale of dollars. Article (2) grants authority to the Qatar Central Bank to determine the volume, timing, conditions, and associated terms for sales and payments of US dollars. Lastly, Article (3) annuls the earlier Royal Decree No.60 of 1975 that had officially tied the riyal to the IMF's special drawing rights (SDRs).

Qatari Riyal relationship to the US Dollar

Following the establishment of Saudi Arabia in 1932, the Saudi Riyal was introduced. Its exchange rate experienced several corrections throughout history. Initially, 1 riyal equal to 22 qurush coins. However, by 1960, this was amended to 20 qurush coins equating to 1 riyal. Notably, in 1952, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) was formed, ushering in multiple reforms aimed at establishing a unified currency system. Currency evolution in Thailand traces back to the Rattankosin era, marking the official issuance of standardised factory-made coins and banknotes. Paper money made its debut in 1853 through royal promissory notes, followed by banknotes from foreign banks. The year 1857 saw Thailand acquiring its inaugural minting machine, initiating the minting of Thai silver coins. Streamlining coinage occurred in 1897, condensing the 11 denominations into two—satang and baht—under a decimalized silver standard system.

The Thai Baht was initially pegged to the British Pound at a fixed rate of 8 TBH to 1 GBP until 1880. Subsequently, this rate underwent several adjustments, linking the Baht to the Japanese Yen at par during World War II. Post-war, it was pegged at 20.8 Baht per 1 US Dollar, transitioning to 20 Baht per US Dollar in 1978 and then to 25 Baht in 1984.A financial crisis struck Thailand in 1997, causing a 50% devaluation of the Baht and compelling the adoption of a floating exchange rate system. However, these controls were largely lifted by March 3, 2008, erasing significant disparities between offshore and onshore exchange rates.
