Zettle by PayPal began in 2011 in Sweden as iZettle, introducing the world’s first mini-chip card reader to small businesses.¹
The following year it expanded into the Nordics, UK, Germany and Spain.
In 2018 Zettle became part of the PayPal family and linked with the PayPal Business account. Then in 2021 changed its name to Zettle by PayPal.²

Currently, Zettle by PayPal is only available in the UK, Europe and some Latin American companies. With no current presence in Australia, Asia or the US, it’s missing a lot of major markets.
Zettle by PayPal isn’t the cheapest payment solutions provider available. By shopping around, it’s possible to find transaction fees 0.5–1% lower than Zettles.
Australian businesses don’t need to wait for Zettle by PayPal to launch here. Whether it’s POS devices, cloud payments, or the full package, there are some competitors to its products, and they’re available now.
