Despite the major halt to the Australian aviation sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, Qantas still remains the second longest running airline in the world.¹ With many flights back up and running, there is still a large number of Australians who are yet to use their cancelled flight credits from bookings during this period.
Not to worry, we are here to go through all you need to know about Qantas flight credits, including the different conditions of use, when they expire and how you can redeem them for your future flight bookings with Qantas.

Flight credits are issued by Qantas in the event of a cancelled or changed booking by the airline itself, or by the passenger.² We will distinguish some differences below.
If flight credits are requested by the passenger and granted by Qantas, the credits will reflect the exact costs of the flight or flights that were part of the cancelled booking. How these credits can be used will be based on when your flight credits were issued. ³
If your flight credits were requested for a booking made before the 30th September 2021, passengers are given special conditions similar to those given if the airline cancelled or changed the booking. You can:
For flight credits issued after this period, the above conditions do not apply and passengers can only book:
For fares higher in price to the original booking, the passenger is responsible for the difference after the flight credits have been applied.
When the airline cancels or changes your booking, the standard conditions plus the special conditions apply to redeeming the credits.³
Flight credits are not the same as a voucher and are only transferable for flight fares. Qantas does sell gift vouchers for customers to purchase as a separate product which is redeemable for domestic and international flights with the airline.²
Your Qantas credit voucher has the same booking number as your original booking. This means you’ll be able to find your flight credits through the manage booking tab on the Qantas website. If you have used a portion of your flight credits already, you should have received a new flight credit confirmation email.⁴
To redeem your flight credit, you can³:
Some flight credits may have been transferred to a Qantas Pass, Qantas TravelPass or Qantas credit voucher.² You should check your email for any correspondence from Qantas if you cannot locate flight credits online.³

For flight credits issued on bookings before 30th September 2021, customers have until the 31st December 2023 to use their credits. For booking made from 1st October 2021, flight credits will expire in 12 months from the original booking. If you do not use your flight credits by the expiry dates, you will forfeit them.³
For flight credits issued on bookings before the 30th September 2021, it is possible to redeem your flight credits towards different destinations. To organise this, you’ll need to contact Qantas contact centre. If you have flight credits issued after this date, your flight credits are only valid for the original destination.³
Flight credits cannot be sold or given to someone else. It is also not possible to change the name on the booking either.³
No matter when or how your flight credits were issued, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to redeeming your Qantas flight credits. These are as follows.³
These conditions can change at any time, so it is up to you to check with the Qantas for how you can use your flight credits on future bookings.
If you need to contact Qantas in regard to your flight credits or for any other reason, you can:
There are also contact options for those who require special assistance or are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired.
