Cover-More Australia is a travel insurance provider that’s underwritten by Zurich Australia. Their policies are largely designed for Australian residents, offering coverage for single international and domestic trips, as well as an annual multi-trip policy. They also offer inbound insurance for people coming to visit Australia.
To be eligible to hold a single or multi-trip insurance policy for domestic or international travel, Cover-More Australia only stipulates that you need to be an Australian resident.¹
There are three international travel insurance packages available from Cover-More which can be purchased as a single trip or annual multi-trip policy.¹
- International Basic is a budget friendly plan that provides cover for the essentials like emergency medical.
- International Comprehensive is Cover-More’s middle tier plan, offering comprehensive travel insurance coverage.
- International Comprehensive+ is the highest level of cover available, featuring increased benefit limits and extra perks for business travellers.
Which plan is best for you will depend on factors like what level of medical and travel coverage you want, your budget and any limits or exclusions that could be deal breakers. Let’s take a look at each of these in more detail.
Starting with medical coverage, here are some of the core benefits and total limits for each policy on offer from Cover-More.¹
Benefit | International Basic | International Comprehensive | International Comprehensive + |
---|---|---|---|
Overseas medical | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
Overseas emergency dental | $2000 | $2000 | $2000 |
Hospital incidentals | No cover | $6000 (sublimits apply) | $10,000 (sublimits apply) |
Loss of Income | No cover | $30,000 (sublimits apply) | $45,000 (sublimits apply) |
Aside from medical coverage, travel insurance policies can also offer protection against the impact that unexpected travel events can have. Here are some of the things that can be covered by travel insurance and what each of the Cover-More policies offers, keeping in mind that sub-limits may apply.¹
Benefit | International Basic | International Comprehensive | International Comprehensive + |
---|---|---|---|
Amendment and cancellation costs | Depends on the level of cover chosen | Depends on the level of cover chosen | Depends on the level of cover chosen |
Luggage and travel documents | $5000 | $15,000 | $25,000 |
Delayed luggage allowance | $600 | $1100 | $1500 |
Missed connection | No cover | $3000 | $3000 |
Travel delay | No cover | $2000 | $3000 |
Rental vehicle excess | No cover | $5000 | $10000 |
Rental vehicle comprehensive cover | No cover | No cover | Covered |
Personal liability | $1,000,000 | $2,500,000 | $5,000,000 |
The cost of travel insurance generally depends on your individual circumstances and travel plans, with the destination, trip length, your age, pre-existing conditions, level of coverage, the excess and add ons all being factors that can shape the price.
To give you an idea of what a Cover-More travel insurance policy costs, here’s what a 35 year old taking a two week holiday to these destinations would pay for single trip insurance with a $250 excess.²
Travel Destination | International Basic | International Comprehensive | International Comprehensive + |
---|---|---|---|
Thailand | $168.00 | $199.00 | $257.00 |
All of Europe | $106.00 | $126.00 | $162.00 |

Most travel insurers, including Cover-More, have a list of policy exclusions which can be found in the Policy Disclosure Statement (PDS). Here’s some of the things Cover-More travel insurance doesn’t cover.³
Cover-More has seven policy add-ons available which can be purchased for an additional fee to expand your coverage for certain activities. ¹
- Adventure Activities Cover
- Adventure+ Activities Cover
- Motorcycle/Model Riding Cover
- Motorcycle/Model+ Riding Cover
- Snow Sports Cover
- Snow Sports+ Cover
- Cruise Cover
Cover-More offers cruise ship insurance as an add-on to their travel insurance plans for an additional premium.⁴ It’s needed if you’re going to be cruising for two or more nights on the open ocean, but not if you’re doing a river cruise in Australia or aboard.
These are the total additional benefits that come with Cover-More Cruise Cover.
Added Benefit | Cruise Cover Limits |
---|---|
Cruise cancellation | Depends on the level of cover chosen |
Medical and dental onboard | Unlimited |
Ship-to-Shore medical | Unlimited |
Sea sickness | Unlimited |
Cabin confinement | $1,500 |
Missed port (embarkation) | $1,000 |
Missed shore excursions | $1,000 |
You’ll notice that like the standard policies, the cancellation benefit is something you get to choose.
Cover-More offers a variable level of cancellation cover for their policies, chosen by you. It’s there to help when you need to cancel something that’s non-refundable and has no other way to be recovered, such as pre-paid flights, accommodation, tours, transportation and cruises.
For Comprehensive and Comprehensive+ customers there’s also the option to buy Cancellation Plus Cover. The main benefit of buying this add-on is it gives coverage to a wider number of cancellation reasons than the standard policy, including simply changing your mind.
Something to be aware of though, is there are some events where you have no cancellation cover no matter what options you chose. For example, if you're not able to go on your trip due government border closures for non-essential travel or you cancelled within 48 hours of the trip departure date, there’s no cover.
There are two ways to submit a Cover-More insurance claim; online and by mail.⁵
To submit a claim online go to the online claims portal and follow the prompts. To complete the process you’ll need to submit documents that support your claim or indicate that you’re waiting for some supporting documentation to be provided. This could include things like police statements, receipts, doctors reports, a travel itinerary, and documentation from a transport provider like an airline.
If you can’t use the online portal then you can submit your claim via mail using the Cover-More travel insurance claim form. Here’s what should be included in the package sent to them.
Once your claim is submitted expect to hear back from Cover-More within 10 business days.
If you need to cancel your claim you can reach out to Cover-More via email or phone to speak to someone who can help. It’s best to check their site for the latest contact details as these can change over time.
