Before we kick off our UOB credit card review, let’s look at a few important considerations when choosing the right card for you.
Minimum income requirements - the minimum earning level needed varies for Singapore citizens and PR compared to expats. The cards we look at in this UOB credit cards (Singapore) review have minimum annual salary rates from 30,000 SGD right up to 150,000 SGD.
Eligibility rules - generally the only other eligibility rules that apply are based on age and residency; aside from the UOB Lady’s Card which is for women only.
Annual fee - annual fees for standard card types are usually under 200 SGD a year, but it’s worth looking for cards which offer ways to have the charge waived or reduced if possible.
Interest rate - interest rates may vary for purchases and cash back, with penalties likely if you’re late paying. Check out all the details before you sign up so there are no surprises.
Cash back and rewards - many credit cards offer ways to earn cash back, rewards or air miles. This can mean you can do more with your money as you earn even as you spend.
Foreign transaction fees - finally if you’ll use your credit card to spend in a foreign currency, when you travel or shop online, it’s worth understanding the foreign transaction fees that apply. The UOB foreign exchange rate will be the rate set by the card network - but UOB then has a 3.25% fee for all foreign currency spending, which pushes up prices.
